Indian Hill Elementary School

Im not sure i like this school, one of my friends were being picked on. This school did nothing about it. They later got mad at her for nothing. They didnt do anything about the kids picking on her. Today,one of our teachers were upset and crying because the principal kept yelling at them because two kids had apples on their desk, the principles have no respect for their staff, if they are allowed to take off their mask then they should be able to eat. It makes me so sad watching my teacher cry, you have to be so mean to make my teachers cry. The principles should be talking to the kids about what were doing wrong instead of getting mad at the teachers. The teachers arent the ones teaching us how to act this way. The kids themsleves act this way. Just because they are adults doesnt mean they dont have feelings, honestly instead of trying to fix the teachers, try to fix on how the kids act.

When our daughter was ready for school in 2010 we were skeptical about putting her in public school and put her in Calvary Christian, which she attended for 2 years until it closed. We then put her in Prince of Peace for a year and a half, which was okay for the first year, but had no choice but to pull her out midway through her second year because the school's principal was only concerned about money and recruitment and the 4th grade teacher was sub par and gave students 3.5 hours of homework a night because she was too lazy and inept to teach properly. We interviewed parents whose children went to Indian Hill, we met with the principal and observed classes before we enrolled her. What a difference! The state took over the school as part of their restructuring plan. The curriculum was the same as being taught in private education, the kids had new technology in the classroom (unlike at Prince of Peace where you pay thousands of dollars in tuition to have technology break constantly), teachers who were engaging and who actually cared about your child; a principal, Dr. Murphy, who spends time with kids, earns their respect and treats them fairly and professionally, unlike Prince of Peace's principal who reinforces bullying and bad behavior by yelling at kids every chance she gets (and I've seen it); three teachers my child has had that assigns homework to reinforce what they've learned, that is reasonable to do in accordance with education standards, and not because the teacher is too lazy to teach like at Prince of Peace. At Indian Hill, kids are encouraged to attend parent teacher conferences. At Prince of Peace they werent allowed. At Indian Hill, kids are rewarded for good behavior and if they forget to do their homework, they are given another opportunity to turn it in. Not punish them by keeping them in at recess to copy the dictionary like they did at Prince of Peace. For any parent considering this school over private school, please consider doing what I did and ovserve the school for yourself. Dr. Murphy and his staff are first rate and this is a great school that is going to achieve their goal of being a top rated school and district in Illinois. Thank you, Indian Hill!

My son attended first grade and had the worst time ever starting with kindergarten in this district. Class sizes are 32-33 students to 1 teacher. Bullying was an issue. The school is made up of poverty Spanish speaking children with parents who obviously have poor morals and little involvement with their children and their schooling. The school is also under average for states scores and is in "restructuring." I pulled my son out after numerous problems with other children being abusive verbally and physically and teachers refusing to handle the situations "because they didn't see it happen." Of course they don't see it happen, there's 32 other kids to watch. Our family is unable to move unfortunately with the poor housing market, so we now homeschool. If you have a choice, stay away from the whole district 116.

I have a son, daughter who attend Indian Hill and are in 2nd and 1st grade. I have seen my children develop as students through the curriculum which the school has provided. However, my kids are at the top of the curve and are fortunate enough to receive daily support from us, the parents. The teachers my kids have had deserve praise for the job they have done developing my kids to this point. However, the social issues of poverty, language, and class size are serious issues that are unavoidable for this school. I feel each year presents a challenge of my kids getting a below standard situation that could alter desired outcome. My family will be relocating this summer with a main contributing factor being our concern with the school and district. If you are a parent considering this school your child can, and should overcome the barriers in early education of K-2. However, in a Race To The Top and Ipad driven education becoming more the standard you should avoid this situation if you have the means to do so.

This is a terrible school. Students receive a very poor quality education and staff members gossip about each other. There is very little unity and administration does not do anything about it.
