Read what parents are saying about Quincy Jr High SchoolRecent alum of this school. I attended for the last part of 7th and all of 8th. For the most part this school is pretty decent. Definitely leaps and bounds above the high school, which completely sucks. I missed my old school a ton because this school didn't feel all to welcoming at first because I was the new kid from Missouri during a covid year. My main problem is how they deal with bullying and the amount of fights. The local police department had to get involved because there were too many fights. As for dealing with bullying, they don't. Especially if that bully is a teacher. I have severe PTSD and it was not handled well. When I had a teacher picking on me about it and told my dean he yelled in my face, knowing full well that it would trigger a panic attack. Some kids pick on/bully special needs kids. The saving grace of this school is the fact that the bad teachers are few and far between. These teachers are known and not well liked, even by other teachers. I loved my seventh grade permanent sub for science and eighth grade communication arts teachers. By far some of the best teachers I've ever had, which is say a lot because I have moved a ton and therefore been to quite a few schools. I still talk to these teachers on a regular basis. Overall just don't live in Quincy. This school is the best you get for public schools, I can't speak on the private schools.
Posted by a community member on 4/1/2023QJHS is a dump. Their food is very nasty. Some kids make fun of kids with special needs. Would NOT recommend.
Posted by a student on 11/11/2022I have a special education student and this school has bent over backward to accomodate his needs. I'm thrilled.
Posted by a parent on 2/19/2017My son started at QJHS this year after years in the Catholic system in Quincy. He has blossomed so far this year and is enjoying school a lot more than he has in the past. One reason is he is able to take "honors" classes, which challenge him. Also, he enjoys the fact it's a bigger campus, but still has the "teams" that make him feel part of a family. As a parent, I like the fact I can access his grades at anytime and can easily email his teachers.
Posted by a community member on 9/15/2015Our daughter has always had to have extra help in accordance with her IEP. In the past I felt she wasn't progressing. When she came to QJHS things changed. I was pleasantly surprised how much better she is doing at QJHS. She is thriving and now on honor roll. From the time my son was there and now with my daughter I have always had positive experiences with the teachers. As far as disruptive students, we have tied our teachers hands where disciplined is involved so what do we expect. It all starts at home with teaching your children to respect authority. It is sad the large number of parents that aren't involved in their child's school life. Teaching is a thankless job.

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’ve been going to St. Francis since preschool and im graduating after this school year, its pretty cool and im going to be 100% honest in this review. I mostly have 3 minor issues with my school.1. The school lunch is not so great, I get stuff is expensive right now and no school’s lunch actually tastes good so just take your own lunch. 2. They replaced iPads with Chromebook's. Chromebooks are really hard to use in my opinion and the schools internet after we got the Chromebooks is kinda bad and nothing will load. 3. A 6th-8th grade teacher cusses at their students and I think that should not be allowed in a catholic school. Nobody really does anything about it though. I just hope somebody talks to them because I really don't like walking into class and getting cussed at. (the teacher also call the boys names like numb-nuts, dingbats, and dingleberry. And even though sometimes they do deserve it and I don’t think they take offense to it, I don't like how the teacher does that.) Here are some of the good things about this school!1. The teachers are very good I like mostly all of them.2. They have fun events like Mardi Gras and field trips (eighth grade gets to go on a big trip!) 4. They have a stem night for the 6th-8th grade. 6th does an egg drop thingy, 7th does mousetrap cars, and 8th does catapults i think! And there is ice cream at stem night so its great! 3. They gave me a good catholic education and im very thankful.Overall a great school!Student Review5mo ago - St Dominic Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere are so many things that I love about St. Dominic! I love seeing my children greeted by the principal and/or teachers every morning when they are dropped off. I love seeing them run, not walk, into school due to the excitement of seeing their friends and getting their day started. I know that the relationships that they are building with their classmates will last a lifetime. I love hearing about their day everyday when I pick them up from aftercare, a program that has been essential for us and enables us to give our children the wonderful education they are receiving. Most of all I love the leadership and service opportunities my children have. They lead morning meetings, read at masses, complete various service projects and collaborate with other grades. St. Dominic isn't only educating my child, they are focused on the whole child and helping develop them to their full potential by giving them skills that will serve them in the years to come outside of the classroom.Parent Review1mo ago - St Peter School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAmazing! St. James is dedicated to student success and faith values. Students are challenged, loved, supported, and encouraged in a focused learning environment to reach for the stars and become their best selves. Have been really pleased with the texts, the teachers, the students, and the results.Parent Review7mo ago
