Read what parents are saying about Central Park Elementary SchoolI was a student here, I don't know about the other reviews, but this school was an amazing experience. I saw little to no bullying happening and when it did it was directly addressed by administrators and teachers in a purposeful way. I went to school here for 5 years and from day one it really changed me - I know that sounds cliche and all, but when I look at the person I was before this school and now after, I know I am incredibly indebted to this school. I love all the teachers there and I hope to stay in contact as I enter highschool.
Posted by a parent on 3/8/2021I believe every administrator and teacher does their best to help each child reach their potential. There are quite a few who go above and beyond in this school!
Posted by a parent on 8/16/2020Zero stars. My daughter has been bullied by staff and by several other students. They eat lunch in their home rooms and the school board will do nothing about the bullying being done. Horrible experience. Should be shut down. Teachers are teaching student in 7th grade at a 2nd grade level. Slurs are usually used by staff.
Posted by a parent on 4/10/2020I am very unhappy that my first grader has had 5 teachers with in this past school year. How are they to learn when each teacher has there own why of teaching. For the first time my daughter is telling me she doesnt like school and doesnt want to go. She loves school! And they dont even apologize for it. Its like no big deal... If it werent for them being the only good school in the area i would have changed schools.
Posted by a community member on 4/23/20161st grade teacher sends homework without instructions, not always needed but sometimes are. Such as sending multiplication home to kids who are just working on adding single digits. Same teacher doesn't seem to want to be bothered to teach or pay attention to students, then in front of parents is fake or makes excuses, or is condescending. The principal seems to make excuses for teachers. That's just a tidbit. I will leave it at that.

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAfter a couple of years of getting picked on & nothing being done about it ,My children are forced to defend themselves against other kids. The principal acts like she completely understands where you're coming from when there's an issue but yet there is no consequences for the student who is always fighting and bullying my child, but instead take recess from my child to prevent him from getting hit! No fair at all!!! She does not know how to handle a situation at all ,the rules in this school need to be reinforced. Also they are a few teachers here who a very mean to the children , I've witnessed it with my own eyes and my children have come home crying because some of these teachers (especially ) the gym teacher ) are very mean, they shout in the children's faces, embarrass them and have threatened to call the cops if the children didn't behave ! It's a shame that we moved out of the city to Oakforest so our kids could have the opportunity to go to a better school and now we're looking to move again because of all that goes on at this school .Parent Review7y ago - Markham Park Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would not recommend this school at all. My daughter spent K-2 grade at Markham Park. She did well and had great teachers K-1. Her 2nd grade year was more challenging. She struggled with tests and reading/comprehension. When I showed concern about this, as her grades were slipping, the teacher told me not to worry. She explained that because we were planning on moving out of the school district she would pass my daughter along to the next grade and there was no reason to hold her back. While I really wanted my daughter to be able to go to the next grade; I didn't want her to be passed along simply because we were relocating and she wouldn't be attending the same school. To me, that just meant that my daughter would still struggle in higher grade. This is no way to address learning issues or struggles in class. Passing children to the next grade despite the student's proving unreadiness shows lack of care! The principal was no help in the situation. They only promised that they would do all they could to help my daughter throughout the next coming months before school ended. My daughter passed the 2nd grade, but was it because she improved or because we were relocating? So sad...Parent Review12y ago - Spaulding School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIt was pretty decent going here. Some ups and downs but some of the teachers were very rude to other students and myself for no reason at all. I enjoyed the good times though that happened but 70% of the time, it was a terrible experience. I wish they were more kind and supportive to have more fun and not be so serious at ALL times. I wish times were more fun there.Parent Review2y ago - Jules Hutton Christian Institute

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI thought that this would be a great school for my kindergartener to attend. However we dealt with bullying in her class. Principal suggested only moving her to the other class, nothing else. I took her out of this school and put her into another private school that we both love. No issues at the other school. This school is un organized and I would not recommend. Principal Walthers had an attitude with me when I called with concerns of this.Parent Review2y ago - Anointed Word International
