Read what parents are saying about Henry Winkelman Elementary SchoolInconstancy with the school leadership who seem more keen on making people happy then doing the right thing in the name of equality and equity because of parents who are on the school board or make donations to the school.I've never seen a school where my child learns reading through POWERPOINT SLIDES? My child is kept busy with with endless packets and their teachers constantly play movies every Friday. I came in to try to art enrichment and I saw my child's teachers on her phone shopping! Would NOT recommend for anyone looking for a school for their child especially in the Northbrook community.Poor leadership and unmotivated teachers.

Posted by a parent on 4/7/2022What a breath of fresh air in the North Shore!A high achieving school and students experience incredible diversity. A 2-building, K-8 District, (Winkelman K-5) and Field (6-8) they make friends for life. The community is close knit - the size of the district allows students to have every opportunity that other township school provide, but the real benefit of D31 is that due to its size and a 2-building district, there is personal attention and focus on each child. With 75-100 students per grade level, teachers make tremendous connections with children and really look out for your child from one year to the next. It's a regular occurence to find last year's teacher, working with this year's teacher, on how to best benefit your child.Whether your child is high-achieving or has some learning challenges - D31 meets students at ALL levels with resources that individualize for unique needs.Unlike other districts where students may change schools 3 times before high school, at D31, all students are in 1 building for K-5 and switch to Field for 6-8. D31 feeds into Glenbrook High Schools - some of the top rated in the nation. The teachers are amazing. The District has tremendous resources and focuses on children. Class sizes are SMALL and the Board works to preserve that. All K-1 classrooms have a teacher AND a full-time teacher assistant (with class sizes always under 18). Most classes in the elementary building are around 20 children.
Posted by a parent on 4/1/2022The district 31 is for sure one of the best of the regions and the Winkelman has a team of professionals that really care about the student. All the communications are clear and the feedback about the students is precise. If you want to have your son in an exclusive district, I really recommend to live in this neighborhood.

When he started coming here, the child did not speak English at all, but the teachers and school staff found an approach and now the child feels great! This school is interested in children growing and achieving success.Parent Review2mo ago - Willowbrook Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis wonderful and true community is long-established, deeply enriched, and dedicated with excellence to high-fidelity implementation of Dr. Maria Montessori's pedagogy.I had the honor of being welcomed to student teach here in 2022, and was delighted by its support of extraordinary, beautiful, and rigorous natural education. I had also been welcomed to observe one of its primary classrooms in 2010.Other Review3mo ago - Care For Kids
