Glen Carbon Elementary School

Both of my children have attended this school. It is fantastic—the teachers care, the parents care, and the students care about each other. It's a safe and warm learning environment. All students have free lunch and breakfast, and they do lots of fun activities for the students.

If you want to take an active roll in your child's education, GLCA is not for you. Simply pickup the phone and call the school, 90% of the time no one will answer. Meetings with the so called 'school administrator' are always rescheduled 2-4 times and often outright cancelled. The curriculum is as expected and it's great to have my child exposed to bible class and Friday chapel. Those are the only reasons I gave them 2 stars. Most of the teachers I have met seem like wonderful educators but they do not seem happy. The high school is currently ~40% exchange students from non-English speaking countries and the younger grades have kids that were kicked out of other private/public schools. When I pay to send my child to a private school I expect a higher standard of education and discipline, not a lower one. Most of the school outings and programs are not planned well. They started the 2014-15 school year with a hot lunch program, but it wasn't maintained and by winter break it was gone. Events like Prom had to be rescheduled due to lack of planning and today is two days before graduation and I have yet to hear anything regarding the ceremony.

Very disappointed in this school. Small classes but bad teachers and poor administration. The school is run by the families who donate the most money.
