Read what parents are saying about East Leyden High SchoolI currently attend this school, and I must say, it is not going great. There are constant fights, and not enough security to help manage them. Last year, there were about 5 fights that broke out the whole week. We tried to inform people about this, but the school didn't let us say anything to anyone because they will get "Bad reviews." The teachers here dump a lot of tests and quizzes in one week each class, which lead kids to a lot of burnouts, especially me. Now, the transportation to the school. It is absolutely horrible, whenever I go to the bus in the morning, it's always crowded with kids, and there's not enough room for people to sit down at times, and they make us go "3 in a seat." Which I believe, isn't even allowed. One incident that happened last year is that the kids in the bus, were also very immature and weren't even told to stop after they kept screaming and putting on inappropriate audios. They also threw food at OTHER cars that were driving past us, and the bus driver was blamed because of it. This really shows how horrible the school is, and I do not recommend it whatsoever, as someone who is currently attending East Leyden.

Posted by a parent on 2/28/2022Kids cannot be safe in this school especially now when a student was stabbed by another student on school property. Where the school security team was? Hmm...
Posted by a community member on 10/4/2019I currently attend this school as a sophomore and have to say that the teachers really do care about helping the students learn and progress in their academics, which can easily be seen by the availability that teachers have to see them before school, during lunch, and after school. There are plenty of great clubs and the coaches are great for the sports, at least the ones I have had. The culture is very diverse and connected. Although there are some people who are bad apples, the majority seem pretty chill. The AP classes are challenging, as they should be, and the teachers try to help the students the best they can. I don't really know what else to say, but overall it is a pretty great school, with the opportunities we have and current technologies.
Posted by a student on 4/7/2017The school is good, but could be a lot better. The administration does not know how to schedule quizzes/tests/exams to allow the students to do their best. Making kids take multiple quizzes/tests/exams on one day, when it could be spread out by simple scheduling guidelines such as which subject or course type can have quizzes/tests/exams on which days of the week. We all want the kids to do better, so the school can get into compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI left the Chicago area for a better life in the suburbs. Yes, River Grove is quiet and there is always parking. Though the schools were terrible. Both kids were in advanced classes in 5th grade, my kids were learning 6th-grade work in Charter school. They came to Rhodes Elementary School and oh my gosh they were so behind in all subjects. My kids were too advanced for this school. My kids had to adjust to the way they were teaching. My kids qualified to be in advanced classes, but the teacher disagree because of their color and race. They didn't straightforwardly say it, but they said their scores were not high enough. Ha, their scores were 3rd in between all 5th grade from all 4 classes. I think that says enough. I heard many different stories from other parents about this school and why they were waiting for the school year to be over to transfer them from schools. They complained about color, race, bullying from teachers and students, and they also complained about how it was disgusting how the boys have to change from regular clothes to gym uniforms in a locker room and they are all naked and showering. I couldn't believe what they were saying. I had to see for myself. Well, guess what I also went through what those other parents were saying. Some parents told me that no one complains they just leave the school. There was one parent that was always on their behind. Later finding out that the school has video cameras in all sections of the school, but not all cameras work. So, we wouldn't have proof of what child was part of the bullying. This is stress on our children. I think this would be a good school if the principal and the vice principal did their jobs. Eliminate teachers that are not willing to teach.Parent Review1y ago - River Grove Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has an IEP and he is thriving at River Grove School. Mr Wiley, our school principal, and all of the teachers truly care about the students. Teachers constantly communicate and collaborate with parents whenever there are issues. My son will be graduating this year and I am sad to say goodbye to the RGS CommunityParent Review2y ago - John F Kennedy Elementary School
