Read what parents are saying about Old St. Marys SchoolMy student has been at this school for two years now and loves it. They are eager to see their friends each day and the teachers are very invested in the students learning. Love our experience so far!
Posted by a parent on 7/12/2023Amazing school overall. If you can afford it, it is a no brainer vs Chicago Public school. Zero bullying. Teachers are amazing and their communication with parents very prompt. My son loves his school and classmates. I am happy students attend weekly mass and focus on God and Education.
Posted by a parent on 1/16/2023This institution has lost its way and leadership certainly does not embody Catholic Core values or the rigorous academics one would expect. The adopted curriculum is nearly identical to the local curriculum that was adopted by CPS 10 years ago. We transitioned our student to Parker after both the principal and Father Brad sarcastically stated that the school cannot support all students--"we simply do not have the resources or skills to help all students." Leadership has forgotten or has chosen to ignore that catholicus means "universal" and all are welcome. These two also complain that the parents of Old Saint Mary's have a sense of entitlement and privilege and, therefore, are by nature "difficult to deal with." I am surprised that leadership is so dismissive of parent concerns. The culture and climate of administration seem very negative and mired in gossip and false pretension.
Posted by a parent on 7/13/2021Incompetent and dishonest administration. School and parents failed to instill values in students. Cheating rampant. Lack of rigor in curriculum. Style over substance.
Posted by a teacher on 8/26/2020poor communication, lack of Catholic identity from administration, little to no support for struggling students

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageGoing downhill really fast. The bullying in school and then shaming by the leadership if reported is terrible. The droning on about 'equity' and not education related activities, performances, and art has made this an un-serious institution. We get it, you like to virtue signal, but it is killing basic math, reading, and science education performance. We are leaving the school ASAP.Parent Review1y ago - South Loop Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFaculty is largely great. Administration is above par. Discipline (admin) is terrible. On the surface, bullying and other common problems are not tolerated, as long as students are of the ‘right’ minority. Administration sides with one demographic often. ‘Assistant principal doesn’t like anyone that’s white or perceived as white’, quote from a Hispanic student.Parent Review1y ago - Daystar School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have two children in the PYP (primary years program) and they are both thriving. The staff and teachers are warm, caring and provide a nurturing but highly structured environment. Starting in kindergarten, classes go on so many field trips and truly do use the city as an extension of their classrooms. Class sizes are small enough that teachers are able to really get to know each student. At the end of kindergarten last year, my child was reading independently at a level at least a few years ahead of her age. We work with her at home on this, so I can’t say it’s all because of the school. But it rarely is the case that a child’s progress is only due to classroom learning. Would highly recommend Daystar to other parents.Parent Review6mo ago - Pui Tak Christian School
