Read what parents are saying about Coonley Elementary SchoolI am pulling my kid because of bullying. The school is run like a prison, and the principal lacks leadership skills.
Posted by a parent on 3/27/2024After reading some of these other reviews, I have to agree. My son has been bullied for years, and it’s been at its worst since the administration changed. Bullying has gotten so bad that they had to bring in a BHT (behavioral health team) and a dean. It’s STILL being poorly managed. I could say more, but don’t want to reveal too much. Take a look though: since this administration took over, how many teachers have left? How many families have pulled their students from the school? That speaks VOLUMES. My son’s class started with 24 kids in August and are now at 19. About to be 18 any day now…I DO NOT recommend.
Posted by a parent on 2/3/2024Our kids have been at Coonley for 7 years. The District needs to investigate the changes happening since the change in principal and vice principal. Many bad changes and now they hired a Dean of Students. What has been happening that warrants a Dean in grade school is necessary. There used to be 2 people in admin and now 7. Plus an additional security guard. The librarian was fired to hire another security guard. Really! Used to have a great non-profit local after-school program. Principle decided to use a profit company that is more expensive and doesn't care about the kids.
Posted by a parent on 8/15/2023Great community but this has been on the decline. We have had kids at this school for 5 years, but we pulled all of our kids out to put them in private schools. So this is not just a rant but a vote with my pocketbook. Some teachers are great and some should never teach again in their life! The 3 major problems we had are; one bad teacher who did not want to teach, a heavy focus on equality vs education, and the craziness of CTU. This is sad because this school is why we moved here.
Posted by a parent on 4/6/2023My son was bullied and picked on constantly by his teacher. It was the worst year in our child’s life. We cried after school. I have PTSD after that year and so does my son. We were constantly told how problematic our son was. His teacher would physically push him. We switched to a different (private) school and my child is thriving and happy, he’s in a school council and I haven’t heard one negative thing. Coonley treats parents like kids and kids like adults. Stay away if you can…

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBateman is a fantastic school! Everyone there is wonderful. Admin and staff are top notch. Teachers are amazing. They offer great student support. My child has been going there for 3 years and loves it. The social-emotional support they’ve provided my child has helped her tremendously. We also love the different daily essential classes - music, health, PE, and art. They have a lot of before and after school activities and NBGC aftercare at the school. Best community too.Parent Review3mo ago - Ravenswood Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSchool places strong emphasis on academic excellence, including regular homework assignments, weekly quizzes and tests. Teachers are involved and very supportive,. New principal - Mr. Guerrero is successful in promoting academic discipline and parents' involvement. There is a zero-tolerance policy on bullying. My two children attend Ravenswood Elementary and I have seen steady improvement in school's academic ranking over the years.Parent Review1y ago - Chicago Montessori

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur daughter has been at North Park since Kindergarten and she skips into school every day with a big smile on her face. The school staff are warm, and welcoming and bring their expertise to ensure the kids are engaged and supported through their educational journeys. I know they are setting kids up to be successful, questioning, kind, and involved high schoolers, community members, and beyond. We feel lucky to be part of the NPES family.Parent Review4mo ago - Pilgrim Lutheran School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePilgrim is a small school with small class sizes. There are many positives to being part of a school this small. Pilgrim offers a great sense of community. The parents, children and some of the teachers and staff make pilgrim a great place. Pilgrim does not have the basic resources that you would find in most schools. Pilgrim does not have a gym, recess past the 4th grade, a library, tech classes etc. Some teachers are difficult to work with and the more you question, the more difficult they will become for you and your child. There is no real leadership for teachers, students or parents to consult, making the toxicity next level. The pastor is not engaged in the religious aspects of the school and has done nothing in the 10 years he had been with pilgrim to grow the church community.Parent Review1y ago - Queen Of Angels Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved to the neighborhood with the intention of sending our three children to Waters Elementary. However, in Fall 2020, when our eldest was five and ready for kindergarten, Waters was offering zoom kindergarten, which we wanted to avoid at all costs. So we enrolled our daughter at Queen of Angels, which was open for in-person learning. She had a magical kindergarten year with Mrs. Thilmany--a storybook treasure of a kindergarten teacher--and we never looked back. Now we have all three at Queens and are grateful, in a way, that the CPS closures during Covid led us to discover this fantastic neighborhood school. Our experience shows that you don't need to be Catholic to benefit from the school's small class sizes, solid academics, super-engaged parent groups, and exposure to a religious tradition that brings so much beauty and history into the children's lives.Other Review10mo ago - St Andrew School
