Read what parents are saying about Cornerstone Christian AcademyI have read the other reviews and I'm sorry for what happened to those people. But I strongly disagree with what they have said. Cornerstone is a Christian school, but in no way do they force you to be Christian or to act like one. Also the teachers are not ignorant in realizing when something wrong with a student. They try to help the student in whatever way they can, and they don't force the student to be Christian to solve the problem.
Posted by a student on 1/6/2023This school portrays that it is full of love and enriching your child into "God's" love. I attended this school for 8 years and left feeling more depressed than I ever have. The students and staff judge you if you don't fall into the typical Christian life. They want to make you feel so insecure you are forced to believe what they do. They interviewed me before I went to a public high school of how I would spread the word of God? I was 13. I am going through the most awkward stage of my life and they put so much pressure on me for spreading the word or I wouldn't be living up to God. I thank God everyday my parents sent me to a public high school. I am now a teacher at a public school and would never send my child to a private christian school because of this experience. Also...8,000 - 9,000? To make your child feel belittled everyday? I think NOT. Also, they say they excel your child's learning when public school does the same, and gives you more opportunities. This school will always have a sad place in my heart, I feel bad for the students being brought up through this school.
Posted by a parent on 6/4/2022No school is perfect, but for me, it was not a good fit. Cornerstone is seemingly welcoming, positive, and nurturing. However, this was not my experience. The academics were exceptional, much higher quality than what you would receive at a public institution. From a social standpoint, I found the community to be toxic, egotistical, and cliquey. One of my classmates obviously was dealing with serious mental health issues, and my teachers and peers showed no support. In fact, I would say a fair amount of staff ridiculed and berated her, despite her mental struggles. If you are not enrolled at CCA by preschool, good luck. Most students are not accepting of “outsiders.” Students think they are royalty, and they are fueled by gossip. Teachers show favoritism, its quite evident. I believe most students would agree with this. Some of the staff completely destroyed my self-eestem, and it was debilitating at times. I know that most of this is a complete waste of my time. If any staff even reads this, they either will not care, or will be too arrogant to accept any fault of their own. I have seen a few people enter CCA as Christians, and leave as atheists. Carefully consider sending your kids here. They may leave sheltered and unprepared for the real world. While the curriculum is rigorous, it is not worth the slew of other problems your child will have to go through.
Posted by a community member on 3/1/2021Cornerstone is an outstanding academic institution for learning. Equally important is Cornerstone's commitment to molding children into responsible, compassionate and creative members of the community. Academic excellence is expected by Cornerstone's administration and teachers and my children have been motivated by their intellectual, spiritual, and creative leadership. My eldest son started Cornerstone as a Freshman and transitioned well into the academically challenging curriculum even though it required additional time commitment to studying. My two younger children commenced their education at Cornerstone at the elementary level and there is no question they have received an exemplary education in a faith based environment. The staff at Cornerstone teach in part by their example but also by motivating students to utilize their talents. My children have a desire to perform as they do not want to disappoint their teachers as they have been taught to not waste the talents that God has given them. Cornerstone is a great place for children to fully utilize their potential in the company of caring and supportive students, teachers and administrators.
Posted by a parent on 10/19/2014I have to respectfully disagree with a previous post stating this school is strictly for "very conservative, evangelical Christians". Our family does not adhere to any particular religion, & we are very happy with this school. My son is in the kindergarten class & we are THRILLED with the school & staff. My son has a medical condition that requires special knowledge & care throughout the school day. The teachers, office staff, nurse & principal have all bent over backward to make sure he is taken care of while at CCA. The children are required to memorize Bible verses & learn about God, but I believe this instills a respect for others, a reverence for life & helps my son develop a kind, caring attitude toward others. They do require even young children to complete homework every night, with the exception of Fridays. This is a very good way to teach good study habits, discipline & responsibility. We have nothing but positive things to say & would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a school with dedicated, caring staff & a well thought out academic program. In an area where the public schools are lacking, this school fills an educational void above & beyond what is needed.

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhile there has been some turmoil within the administration, Dr. Coffman has honed a positive culture that is focused on character building. For the most part this is holding steady after her departure, mostly due to a highly capable group of teachers who truly care about the kids. I'm hoping that Dr. Surian and the new administration will continue the momentum. Out of all the schools in the area, I've noticed that the ISU lab school system does the best job of preparing the kids for university and for life in general. As far as the lack of transparency and diversity in enrollment, by definition there would be no transparency in a lottery system which is touted as method. This lottery system also makes diversifying difficult since it is relies on only those who apply and for legal reasons they do the enquire about race in the application. I absolutely hope for more diversity in the student body in the future and encourage all to apply. There is no tuition since it is officially a public school.Parent Review2y ago - Epiphany Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs of 1/2022, My son has been in attendance at CCA for 5 years. The compassion and dedication of the teachers has far exceeded my expectations. When COVID struck in Mar 2020, CCA moved flawlessly into a remote learning plan that allowed my (then) 4th grader to not miss a beat of learning. During the 2020-21 school year, the children were able to attend in-person for the entire year - this has allowed my son to maintain his education, friendships, sports involvements, musical endeavors, and more, providing a much needed sense of normalcy throughout this pandemic. The class sizes give the teachers opportunities to build relationships with the students, understand their individual needs, and help each student excel. The Christian-Centered education that my child is receiving is preparing him to move forward in his life as a well-centered and compassionate person.Parent Review2y ago - Hammitt School At The Baby Fold
