South Tama County High School

Very poor due to district leaders and staff creating an environment of one-way thinking. My child could not wait to get away from South Tama, as their view was not the same as the majority and therefore treated in a negative manner. A culture of entitlement was taught, without being held accountable. The staff also exhibit this sense of entitlement, not taking responsibility or being held accountable.

Five of my children have attended the STC schools, and while the schools are not perfect, considering the challenges faced by the staff, effective work toward academic and extracurricular success is a focus. The high school was recently renovated, with an addition that eliminated the need for portable buildings. Each year, a quarter of the students are enrolled in dual credit courses, earning college credits through the Iowa Valley Community College system. And a new Superintendent and Curriculum Director have brought dynamic new leadership to the District with a vision for the future and opportunities to focus on closing the gap between students at all levels.

I attended South Tama as a student and now my children attend South Tama. The Elementary School is a brand new state of the art facility and I am proud that both my children have the opportunity to learn and grow as young people in the STC school system. Yes, all school districts have their flaws but I am glad my children go to South Tama.
