Posted by a student on 2/29/2024I absolutely hate this school i get bullied every day by my own friends then they think everything is ok. I wake up everyday thinking ugh another day of school do not I repeat do not put your kids in this school. at this point i hate school with my guts please shut this school down.
Posted by a student on 4/20/2023One word. Careless. They neglect students and yell at them for being “wrong”. If you ask questions , it’s apparently careless. Teachers sit in class and do nothing at all. They show a video and then go on their phone. They don’t do anything about bullying until you stand up for yourself. I got in trouble for saying “jot-dots aren’t sentences.” One time , our teacher named off favorites and it was unequal. They swear in front of us also. Teach these teachers self respect! Also , please add more clubs for ALL grades. 6th graders don’t have many clubs , and if they do , they never let you know how to sign up , times , ect. If I had a choice , I would switch schools.
Posted by a student on 2/20/2023I have had 3 children attend this school and it has progressively gotten worse with each child. They no longer lecture they do everything via chrome books and computer videos. When teachers are asked for assistance, they tell the students to rewatch the video instead of explaining the assignments. I have been sent videos of teachers sleeping, reading books, playing on their phones all while students are watching the course work videos. Roosevelt does not have teachers it has babysitters. It's no wonder their test scores are the lowest in Cedar Rapids, or why their students are so far behind the other schools. Great Schools didn't even rate them a 1 out of 10. The open enrollment process is a joke. We tried to open enroll to a different school 3 years in a row and when you can get someone to actually get back to you, they just deny the request anyway. The teachers spend way too much time trying to bully kids instead of teaching and if the kids try to ask any questions they are kicked out of class to the office or they get detention for the most ridiculous reasons. If you can avoid living in this school's jurisdiction, I strongly recommend avoiding it like the plague. Your children will not be taught anything, and you will have to work with them in the evenings to make sure they are not behind when they go into high school.
Posted by a parent on 2/6/2023This school is not a safe learning environment. Kids are violent and there are no repercussions to teach students right from wrong. Kids that are struggling academically are left to figure things out on their own as staff doesn't seem to care.

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe principal is the worst. Every time my daughter was harassed. It was her fault. We fell for her lies for months. Then we find out that they withheld certain information from us. Then when we decided to move a her to a different school. She tells us that it can't be done and that we were being childish. Within the month we got my daughter out of that school. Then the same principal decides to give us the silent treatment. Sounds pretty childish to me. My daughter has improved in her new school. She enjoys it. She is happy and is learning much more then cleveland elementary could ever teach her.Parent Review1y ago - Harrison Elementary School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has had both good and bad experiences at this school. The bad, however, outweighs the good. He has wet his pants when a teacher refused to let him go to the restroom. He has been bullied. He hasn't learned anything this school year because the teacher has no control over his classroom. I've spoken with the new principal about moving my son to a different teacher this year and was told no. The principal is new as of last month so is unaware of the plans and actions previously in place to help this teacher and because he hasn't been involved, he basically wants to start from scratch. I'm all for the teacher learning and growing but my son is not being provided the same opportunity. I will be moving my son to a different school.Parent Review4mo ago - Lasalle Middle School - Holy Family

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is like the cup in Matthew 23:25 that has been washed on the outside but is completely rotten on the inside. I would say a lot more, but the Yelp review for this school explains it pretty well, so I will try to give a brief summary. The administration is incompetent and deceptive, the curricula are obsolete, and the students are rude and cliquey and just as duplicitous as the administrators. Grade inflation is rampant, and students regularly receive high marks for mediocre work - I once saw a classmate who submitted an essay about Margaret Thatcher inventing abortion in the early 1900s later go on to graduate with the highest honors despite openly cheating on final exams. Continuing on that thread, the school has a major cheating problem that the administration refuses to acknowledge despite being warned about it multiple times. To their credit, the teachers are very competent and work as well as they can with the fundamentalist gay-bashing young-earth creationist curricula they are forced to use. Reading between the lines, it’s clear that many of them have been compelled to dumb down their classes to accommodate the lazier students that the administration favors. Do not be fooled by buzzwords like 'Christlike character' and 'academic excellence' - if you pay attention for long, you will start to see through this school very quickly. I would strongly recommend online Christian schools like Scholé Academy or HSLDA for a better educational experience.Other Review8mo ago - St. Jude Elementary School
