Read what parents are saying about Madison Elementary SchoolI don't want to go into a lot of detail but I will say, if you have the means to send your child elsewhere, do so. My son's second and third grade teachers were wonderful but his first and fourth grade teachers..... the things that they will say to your child is shocking and the principle will be on the side of the teacher. Your child has no voice in this school. My son hates school this year to the point that he will beg me not to make him go. I hope for the sake of the kids some changes are made here. Madison has a 3 rating for a reason; It's one of the worst schools in the Cedar Rapids area. I will be sending my child elsewhere to
Posted by a community member on 2/5/2016I was told my daughter was doing fine, we switched schools and I found out she was over a year behind! This school is a joke. The principal doesn't know up from down and the school doesn't keep track of anything. They falsify data... Stay far away! My other kid was bullied by not only kids, but also teachers! In desperate need of continuing education and a better principal!
Posted by a parent on 3/20/2015While this school may be OK for kids without special needs... it is NOT good for kids with special needs! Especially if your child has autism! The school has been uncooperative overall and I am beyond disappointed. Even more disappointed to find out that my first review was deleted, and apparently only positive reviews can be posted. Hiding much?

Great teachers and activities. Good set of parents there too.

The teachers and staff do a great job of getting to know the kids and parents even if they don't have your child as a student at the time. The teachers my son have had so far, have made school enjoyable enough that he still hates to miss school and is above his grade level in all of his skills.

Then we find out that they withheld certain information from us. Then when we decided to move a her to a different school. She tells us that it can't be done and that we were being childish. Within the month we got my daughter out of that school. Then the same principal decides to give us the silent treatment. Sounds pretty childish to me. My daughter has improved in her new school. She enjoys it. She is happy and is learning much more then cleveland elementary could ever teach her.Parent Review1y ago - Coolidge Elementary School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has had both good and bad experiences at this school. The bad, however, outweighs the good. He has wet his pants when a teacher refused to let him go to the restroom. He has been bullied. He hasn't learned anything this school year because the teacher has no control over his classroom. I've spoken with the new principal about moving my son to a different teacher this year and was told no. The principal is new as of last month so is unaware of the plans and actions previously in place to help this teacher and because he hasn't been involved, he basically wants to start from scratch. I'm all for the teacher learning and growing but my son is not being provided the same opportunity. I will be moving my son to a different school.Parent Review4mo ago - Lasalle Middle School - Holy Family

I would say a lot more, but the Yelp review for this school explains it pretty well, so I will try to give a brief summary. The administration is incompetent and deceptive, the curricula are obsolete, and the students are rude and cliquey and just as duplicitous as the administrators. Grade inflation is rampant, and students regularly receive high marks for mediocre work - I once saw a classmate who submitted an essay about Margaret Thatcher inventing abortion in the early 1900s later go on to graduate with the highest honors despite openly cheating on final exams. Continuing on that thread, the school has a major cheating problem that the administration refuses to acknowledge despite being warned about it multiple times. To their credit, the teachers are very competent and work as well as they can with the fundamentalist gay-bashing young-earth creationist curricula they are forced to use. Reading between the lines, it’s clear that many of them have been compelled to dumb down their classes to accommodate the lazier students that the administration favors. Do not be fooled by buzzwords like 'Christlike character' and 'academic excellence' - if you pay attention for long, you will start to see through this school very quickly. I would strongly recommend online Christian schools like Scholé Academy or HSLDA for a better educational experience.Other Review8mo ago
