Read what parents are saying about Valley Lutheran SchoolI see why the positive comments are all from years ago. We have been involved with the school for many years but have to admit the quality of the school has plummeted. Enrollment has dropped significantly in the last five years and most sports have been dropped because of this. I imagine this has to do with the lack of initiative to improve and build the school. There is also a lot of infighting among the Lutheran leaders about the school. As a parent, the administration was unpleasant to work with. Major issues were not dealt with. It was very frustrating. Diverse voices are not heard. Those who aren't in the "boys club" don't have a voice. After talking with teachers, we also learned that it is not a positive place to work. Not only are teachers paid poorly, but they are not valued. There is high teacher turnover. In the last couple years alone over 50% of the teachers have left and the school struggles to fill open positions. It would not surprise me if the school closes soon.
Posted by a parent on 5/24/2023There are almost no sports now because classes are so small. It was really hard to fit in. I liked music but just not enough kids.
Posted by a community member on 5/24/2023Valley is a great school, just like every other school it is not perfect. Also not like every other school Valley is more then just a school, it is a family. The staff love on your kids, and the other families and staff welcome love and Christ like behaviors. So blessed to be a part of the Valley Family <3
Posted by a parent on 2/27/2018Valley Lutheran has a full curriculum of core courses for all grades. The high school offers art, foreign language, vocal and instrumental music, and Advanced Placement courses along with opportunities for Christian service. Student growth and academic achievement are aided by the desirable student/teacher ratio, daily devotions, prayer, and a close working relationship between parents and the school. Each year new co-curricular opportunities are added so that students can be involved in activities that are led from a Christ-centered perspective. Families choose Valley Lutheran School as an alternative to public education, as we are able to educate a child not only academically but spiritually and emotionally because of the love of Jesus Christ.
Posted by a teacher on 4/4/2014Valley Lutheran is committed to offering excellent education and caring about students, both academically and spiritually. As a teacher, I find joy in my job every day. Our principal is fantastic and has the school growing and headed in the right direction. Come shadow for a day and see if it's right for your son or daughter!

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMr. Ortman is a stellar principal. He has been very hands on for the past three years my son has attended. Last year, he was at drop off nearly every day. He knew all the students names and would give high-fives as they got to school. It feels nice knowing that the principal gets to know the students and they respect and love him. I think every grade has a "meh" teacher, which my son landed this year. We have many close friends who would agree. However, none of the teachers are bad teachers, just not as stellar as others. The front office is usually quite professional and helpful. There is no homework from K-2nd grade, which is awesome. I feel the teachers just want the kids to focus on learning in class and being kids outside of class. I couldn't agree more. There are after school reading groups for those who need help. (Didn't have to use those, so I can't speak to the helpfulness firsthand, but our friends spoke highly of it). We had a friend whose daughter was not thriving in a certain teacher's class environment. This mother spoke with the principal (albeit too late in the year) and was assured her daughter could switch classrooms without pressure or pushback. Administration listens, teachers are great. I will say my son HATES music. He can see fake from a mile away and does not care for the music teacher, who they see every 5 days. I feel like the music teacher either chose the wrong profession or he needs to be working with a different age group altogether. That is my only complaint!Parent Review1y ago - Lincoln Elementary School

Some people are very against common core but I got switch in 3rd grade and I have never understood school better. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son was welcomed to Southdale for 5th grade. His teacher, Ms. Sellers was above and beyond in her attention to my son. I was also welcomed warmly. All my questions and concerns were answered, no problem. E mail and texts are an extremely important add on for reminding me of all the wonderful activities, school closures, and early dismissal. I'm excited to have my son there this year for 6th grade. Thank you Mr. Strubb, school principal for a lovely experience.Parent Review2y ago - Blessed Sacrament School
