Read what parents are saying about Tucker High SchoolThis school has really fallen in quality from when the long-standing principal left at the end of 2017. The next year saw three different principals, as the person hired first was an utter disaster in terms of fit with the school. Now, six years later, the school rating here has gone from a 7 to a 3, and it shows. The principal is exhausted and bumbling. The assistant principals are clueless. None of them are strong leaders and none of them make their presence known among the students, except in the lunchroom. Students complain regularly about the teachers, the bullying, and the lack of resources. The fun clubs and positive, morale-building activities have fallen completely off the cliff, in favor of more focus on athletics and less focus on academics. As a teacher, the attitude of the other teachers and staff always seemed halfhearted, at best, though there are some true gems few and far between. The kids are great and are truly underserved at this school, sadly.
Posted by a teacher on 6/3/2023Good teachers but terrible counselors. My grades dropped from A’s to straight f’s and I believe that should have been an indication for my counselor to help me but I never got any help while I was at this school. I was very interested in learning higher mathematics, but my counselors wouldn’t even let me take a test to prove if I was capable enough to take such classes even tho some math teacher’s advised me too. Bullying and fights are also a regular at this school. Fights happens approximately every 2 days but it’s not fixed. Also most teachers are wild too. They don’t care about you they are there just to clear out their student Loan. In conclusion if you plan on challenging yourself in gaining higher education don’t go to this school. The counselor’s will not support your decision to challenge yourself and pursue higher education.

Posted by a student on 2/20/2022A 3 out of 10 because if i hadn't of had that select few good teachers and my mom to fight the bad teachers, I would have failed.
Posted by a student on 5/3/2018Very marginal. While there are a few great teachers and administrators at Tucker, and if you're already a decent student and have a family who cares, you will get what you need at Tucker to get the job done and get a diploma and maybe get to college, but the bottom line is, you have to watch behind everything to make sure that what is supposed to get done gets done and even then you are often met with difficulty and Kafka-esque situations. Tucker High will give you and your child a good knowledge of how to adequately follow rules and deal daily with bureaucratic-minded and legalistic people who lack excellence. As for providing an excellent education, developing great character and igniting a passion and potential for creating a better future for and by its students and the world - not so much.

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI enrolled my kid here in 2018. Not even a month later, she came crying to me and told me she was getting bullied. The teachers and staff did not take it seriously and did not even try to help her. I took her out of that school ASAP. DONT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE IF YOU WANT A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR YOUR CHILD. She now is afraid to walk in her new school fearing that she will get bullied again with the staff not doing anything. I enrolled her in Idlewood and she has been doing better now. The teachers at this school are rude, careless, and impatient with you and your child. Meanwhile, the staff at her new school are caring and respectful. She got bullied there once but the teachers rushed to take care of it as soon as they could. They are very nice and welcome all races. Don't put your child here.Parent Review1y ago - Livsey Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI wish I could give zero stars. My daughter was sexually assaulted by a boy here in third grade on the bus. It was reported to two principals, the bus driver and I was ensured his parents were told and they apparently were not until over six months later. The same boy showed up at my home when my child had switched to virtually only. He then assaulted my dog. He began stalking her at our home and sexually harassing her. The school refused to do anything because it was not on the bus although that is where he was coming from. I was told to call Dekalb Police who when I called, told me this was a school issue. The board of education said the school should have offered a meeting on school grounds between parents which I actually asked for four times and was told, “we don’t do that.” That was a lie. Finally after months, an assault, an assault on my pet and harassment, the principal told this boys mother…finally….but then told the mother to show up at my home to talk to me without asking my permission for that. The principal said for the mother to have her son show her where we lived and just show up since they would not allow a conversation on neutral school grounds. I was not comfortable with this, this was dangerous and told the principal so who then refused to call the woman back and tell her not to show up to my home. Of course the mother didn’t show because why would she address her son’s assaults? I gave up, I had done everything right with the chain of command but no one would help and no one cared. They put my child in class with that same boy this year. I told the teacher who is the only one who cared. She told the counselor who was not informed of how this boy escalated. She was pushed out of handling the issue by the principal last year and had no idea how bad it got. This school is dangerous, does not teach well, and supports kids who sexually assault little girls. Due to all of this, I am choosing to leave the state entirely next year.Parent Review1y ago - Midvale Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSend your kids elsewhere until this principal is removed. I have pulled my kids and suggest others do the same. Read all the previous posts. It's really sad what has happened to the amazing teachers that felt they had to leave to be happy. What was once a little neighbor gem of a school is now a sad place with incompetent leaders.Parent Review1y ago - Nesbit Elementary School
