Read what parents are saying about Vanderlyn Elementary SchoolCan’t say enough great things about this school. My daughter is in kindergarten and thriving!
Posted by a community member on 12/28/2023We simply love the school. My son has been thriving there. He is been there last 4 years. Principal knows every kid in school by name. Some Teachers are beyond awesome. Second grade teachers he got are amazing. They taught class and each kid based on their level and abilities. My son literally jumped grades above and more than that he is now interested in maths which was opposite when he started. Teacher put personal efforts on each and every kid and reached out to parents through out the year. Overall quality and staff wise its awesome school. Front desk staff is very friendly as well.

Posted by a parent on 6/30/2020My daughter has had a great experience at Vanderlyn. Her education has been top notch. The teachers and administrators are all very friendly and interact with the children and parents with respect.
Posted by a parent on 1/13/2017Our son has been at Vanderlyn for 3 years now, and it has been a great experience for us, especially compared to the (also highly-ranked) public school he previously attended. The teachers are caring, compassionate and dedicated. Academically, he is doing great, although the gifted program is relatively weak (an issue with all public elementary schools in the area, from what I've heard). Our son has ADHD, and each of his teachers has worked with us to help meet his special needs. The administration is supportive, proactive and hard-working. Even though the school building is older, I wouldn't choose any other elementary school in Dekalb county over Vanderlyn.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe simply love Kingsley, a STEAM certified school. They really excel at providing project-based enrichment opportunities - including Montessori Mondays where students get to rotate to 2 different specials classes (e.g. in one of them called Writer's Workshop, my daughter spent 9 weeks writing her own books). The STEM lab and Art studios are both amazing, and the club opportunities are so cool too. My daughter is in an all-girls club called STEM Gems, and they've gotten her hooked on coding!! We feel so fortunate to be at this gem of a school!Parent Review4y ago - Chesnut Elementary School

The school has many activities for kids to get involved with and my son loves being a Chesnut Cougar.Parent Review1y ago - Dunwoody Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child's second grade teacher did absolutely nothing to protect her against being bullied and abused by other students. The teachers were not watching the children during recess when my child was repeatedly attacked, ostracized, and physically abused by other children. When my child was touched inappropriately by other students it was not taken seriously by the teacher, the assistant principal, or the counselor. The claim was never completely investigated and my child lived in fear of these monsters for years. It took years for my child to speak up about what actually happened. I am outraged as a parent that this was ever allowed to happen and that it occured due to a complete neglect of supervision and oversight by a careless teacher. Let me put it plainly - There are child aged predators in this community and the playgrounds are not well supervised. Teachers stand around in groups and talk while children are left to defend themselves against older predatory aggressors. My child was afraid because the counselor did not believe their claims and the second grade teacher did not help when my child went to her for help. Her teacher was supposed to protect her but instead made things worse by leaving the class unattended for long periods of time, and ignoring when I brought up my concerns. When I raised concerns as a parent they were not taken seriously and only partly investigated. If your child is now in middle school you need to start asking difficult questions about their experiences at Dunwoody Elementary. If you are anything but the all american white family with a large dunwoody home you will be treated as inferior by teachers, parents, staff, and management. I personally witnessed mistreatment of minority families during the registration process. The fact that parent volunteers check your address on a google map is insulting and discriminatory practice. The commentary from these so called volunteers that some received at this part of the registration process is unbelievable. The fast pass registration system is also discriminatory. Not all families can afford these large donations to get into shorter registration lines.Parent Review1y ago - Seigakuin Atlanta International
