Read what parents are saying about East Columbus Magnet AcademyGreat school in an awesome location very close to the military post.
Posted by a parent on 2/15/2022This school has a lot to offer but with the administration, mainly the principal and the teachers who have their hands tied because of said principal and policies in regards to special education children. Some of these children have behavioral "differences" that are very violent in nature and that poses a risk to my children and to others as well as the teachers being hurt. It has been brought to the attention of the principal Mrs Magwood but she doesn't do anything. Get rid of the principal, punish or move the behavior issues whether they have a spec. need or not, then maybe the school would have a hope to become something great.
Posted by a parent on 2/27/2019Please do not send your children here if you can help it. The administration is lax (Good luck trying to bring any issues to them. They'll more than likely brush it aside and not take it seriously) and the number of behavior problems among the students here are insurmountable.

Posted by a parent on 7/30/2017My child attends ECMA and I cannot wait until this school year is over. The staff are not the most professional people in appearance or in communicating with you. There are a few teachers who are genuinely interested in the children's learning. However, for the most part, the teachers are merely in motion. Since Tamura Magwood has taken over as principal, the disciplinary problems are enumerable and there seems to be no resolution in sight. I am interested to see how the children faired on the GMAS this year. Something tells me the results will be unfavorable.

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHonestly, this school has improved a lot since my mother (40 years plus) has gone here. This school receives a lot of bad press because of what the scores were years ago but I know for a fact if you participate, volunteer, get involved and assist with your child at home that your child too will be a light in any school that takes the time to teach child with care, compassion and patience. This school has improved during the year my child attended and I wouldn't trade that experience for nothing in the world. Like all schools there are down falls, the only issue I would like to be addressed in this school are incidents that occur with bystanders, keeping the gate closed to the playground area and notices about any changes that were made during the course of the school year.Parent Review5y ago - Wesley Heights Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI love Wesley Heights, all of my children attend/attended this school. One of my sons who is in the 7th grade was tested into the Magnet program. My other son who still attends was excepted into the magnet for his 6th grade year of middle school next year. Even though I've had my ups and downs, I will say that the teachers and Dr. Evans are on the same sheet of music. Dr. Evans tried to do a lot of things for the school like introducing more fine arts type of activities to the scholars. The school held a Career Day program where the school had people come in from the local Humane society and other local business to talk to the kids about what they do. They also have a wonderful dance team and a new Music teacher and Art teacher this year that put on a show to showcase the kids art and musical talents. My daughter is currently in third grade here and has been struggling but the teachers communicate to me all the issues she has (most out of their control) and try to meet up with me as soon/frequent as possible to help her succeed. I notice new teachers coming around and they seem to really care about the scholars success as much as the veteran teachers at the school. As a parent I don't rely on the teachers to do everything with my children I do a lot of extra work with them outside of school mostly because they cant be expected to home train or teach them everything. I do feel like my boys came a long way and a big part of their success came from the support I was given from the Wesley Heights staff. Its been an 8 year journey and its still not over yet but I can honestly say am absolutely satisfied.Parent Review7y ago - Dawson Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe worst school in Muscogee County. The principal Ms Hamilton is unprofessional with a attitude problem. Hamilton constantly picked on my child while attending. She would always go to my child’s classroom just to find her wrong doings. She would also single my child out of everybody in the class. Hamilton told lies saying that she would be the last one to leave the school everyday after school. The staff just be all over the place. They call your phone about every little thing. The staff is unprofessional as well. They don’t do right with registration. My child been in school since the beginning of the year and now they are telling me she can’t return until she have some form done. Which they never told me about the form until a couple days ago. They withdrew my child because of her vaccines paperwork had her name spelled wrong. Which was the form they overlooked at registration. After correcting with her doctors they did not allow my child to return to school after they said they would. Their after school pick up is not safe for the kids. Really anybody can pick your child up all they need is your car number to make copies of it. So the school wouldn’t really know who picks your child up.Parent Review2y ago - Pinehurst Christian School

On the other hand it was a nightmare for my daughter in the K5 class. Originally, we were told there would be small class sizes and that was our major concern. We were misled from the beginning. There are 23 students in the PK5 class they told the parents that they were going to hire another teacher and never did so they could split the class up. We could have enrolled her in public school and received the same curriculum, class size, and hands on with the classwork (which was none). My daughter has been in daycare since she was 8 months old and we didn’t have any of the issues that we experienced in this “Christian” school. My daughter was bullied by one of the boys in her class for over a month and the last incident made us take our children out. She was beat up by an older student (boy) on the playground and no one came to her aide. We are furious! We had to take her to the doctor because she woke up with pain in her back, stomach, and head (where she was hit). The lack of supervision and empathy at this school is unreal. This was not what we signed up for. Our children love going to church and being in a Christian atmosphere but this is truly not a Christian setting and the yelling and screaming at the children will leave scars for years….Other Review6y ago - St. Marys Road Christian Academy
