Read what parents are saying about Rainbow Elementary SchoolRainbow has gone down hill over the last several years. There are some amazing teachers here who truly love children but they are being stifled by administration and those teachers who are strict, mean, rule-loving are the ones who get rewarded. There is very little school spirit although the PTA is active and tries to make up for what is lacking from the head of the school. There is too much emphasis on tests, grades, and following rules. Kids need to have more freedom to express themselves. It is sad what this school does to rob young children of their natural curiosity and joy. The exact opposite of what is supposed to happen in a learning environment.
Posted by a parent on 5/17/2019My son is in second grade and has been going to Rainbow since kindergarten. The teachers and staff have all been wonderful! I'm happy to be a part of this school.
Posted by a parent on 2/21/2018My son went to Rainbow from K-12, he is now a sophomore in high school. My daughter now attends Rainbow, and again best administrative staff. Never have had a bad experience, when we went to meet the teacher my son (10th grader) came with us and the front office and other teachers remembered him! My daughter just started 1st grade, she loves going to school so much she gets upset on the weekends. Can't no say enough about this school, we are very lucky/blessed to have such a great school with even better staff for our children
Posted by a parent on 8/17/2017It was a terrible year. The principal needs to go and then maybe the school would be a better place for kids. Proper leadership is so important in running a successful school, she is not doing a good job.
Posted by a parent on 5/28/2017This school is more interested in getting money from parents than teaching the children. My son was in the 99th percent of his grade at the beginning of the school year and at the end is closer to the class average. I have had numerous requests for conferences with the teacher and the administration and they either ignore me or don't seem to be interested in differentiating his education. Worst off they send at least 2 requests for money each week. Worst school ever.

Principal needs to be more involved on the disciplining process instead of handing it to the assistant and hoping it will get resolved. They need to follow up with parents on the actions they are taking when concerns are raised.Parent Review11mo ago - Keeth Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI had two children enrolled in this school. One of them was labeled by the staff and other kids, and my other child simply did not make any progress academically. The teachers are not qualified. I found myself correcting spelling errors from them several times. The one good thing that came out of this school was that as a result I was able to find a loving and nourishing school for kids. To this day, both of my children remain honor students, thanks to their current school.Parent Review2mo ago - The Master's Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe Pre-K assessment is overkill. They make parents wait in a small library, take your student for an hour-long assessment that over the phone was described by Megan Jones as to see how they interact with other students. Come to find out (after several emails requesting to know more about their request for a SECOND assessment), they are very critical of your child. Betsey Vallery states in her email to me:"[Student] was very interested in the items in our classroom and such a sweet little boy. He did have difficulty following teacher one-step instructions and redirection. For example, when the teacher called [Student] to small group to draw, he ran around the carpet area. The teacher came alongside him and told him to please use his walking feet and modeled her walking feet. This gentle redirection is usually very successful as it's 1:1 in this assessment setting, but he continued to run."[Student] had just turned four only three days prior to the assessment. He's extremely responsive with adult direction, and I find this commentary completely inappropriate. As a former teacher myself, this is not even something that should be a concern. In addition, she states that [Student] didn't know how to write name, draw a self portrait, count to 10 or identify shapes, all of which he's been able to do for more than a year. I wasn't there in the assessment, but I do wonder about the effectiveness of the teacher to inspire participation. She also mentioned that the application showed he wasn't potty trained, which is completely inaccurate. I remember choosing on the application that he was potty trained. He's been accident-free since 2 years old and has never worn pull-ups at night.I felt that this was not a normal Pre-K. They want students that already know what they need to know for kindergarten so they don't have to do their jobs in teaching them. They want kids without a pulse, who aren't excited to be in their classrooms and to be around new toys and potential friends. Another concern is many of the prospective students weren't from the Oviedo area. Their parents were driving 40 minutes each way, so your child making friends that they can play with outside of school may be an issue, unless you like driving.Parent Review2y ago
