Read what parents are saying about Student Leadership AcademyA+/5stars. The teachers and the administration are above and beyond. Our child has flourished at SLA, due to his love for his teachers!
Posted by a parent on 9/16/2018The academics are great. I would recommend this school especially the one on one with the students.
Posted by a parent on 6/25/2018The Student "Leadership" Academy controls their middle school kids with a bathroom policy which has literally caused my child to not use the bathroom while at school. Imagine having to get permission from your teacher, then take your agenda to the front office to be signed in to use one of the few restrooms. Once your bathroom turn is over, you return to the office to get checked out of the bathroom and receive your agenda back. They you can return to class. I don’t understand if this because there are so few student bathrooms, or if this controlling bathroom policy is an example of how seriously they take their school mission to promote leadership in an academic and social atmosphere. Besides that, I still rate the school average. My student never has homework. The school does not have a formal parent-teacher conference opportunity. If you reach out to a teacher, your lucky to get a response via email with any substance. Teachers do not meet with you to discuss student progress unless you have a really troubled child or one in the honors program. We're thankful for the availability of a bus, however, the system is that kids are picked up and bussed with highschool kids / other schools and they make two school stops and one bus change. On the final bus that takes them to SLA, it's 4 to a seat/standing room only.
Posted by a parent on 1/31/2018An AMAZING charter middle school! The only negative thing I have to say is that there is no Student Leadership High School. The admin staff is WONDERFUL, the Principal is a STRONG LEADER and takes ownership of her school, the teachers are CARING and truly belong working with the ages they work with. The ESE Liaison is INCREDIBLE!! She works with the parents, children and teachers with such dedication and strives to go with what is best for the child. The first period is a "club" period, which gives the children the opportunity to learn about things such as auto works, dance, military history, etc. SLA is a small middle school with only about 400 or so students. Uniforms are REQUIRED. Volunteering is highly encouraged (and required by students and parents). School has Builders Club, which is a teen version of the Kiwanis.
Posted by a parent on 5/6/2015We've found the teachers at SLA to be very good, and they all make time for the kids who need extra help. It's a smaller school, which works to the students' advantage since they get more individual attention from the teachers and staff.

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter started this school at the 5th-grade level a couple of months into the school year. I was a bit uneasy about her starting later due to us relocating. However, her teachers were very informative and supportive. Within the first quarter Aiyanna had caught up with the rest of her peers; nonetheless, it was due to the involvement, coaching, and patience of the teachers and myself working together. I appreciated them very much; especially her coming in not only as a new student but us as a family not knowing the differences in the curriculums based in her school district she was in prior to us moving to Sarasota county. The teachers actually care about the students' education and are always available when parents reach out or express concerns. They don't just say what parents want to hear and that is appreciated especially as a very involved parent in my child's education; this speaks volumes.Thank you for all that you do! I have a son starting Kindergarten this fall if we lived in the district I'd be sending him to Venice EL as well.Parent Review1y ago - Garden Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageReally wishing my daughter was not enrolled in a school that lets kids get away with bullying. My daughter drags her feet in the morning hoping we won't send her to school where instead of learning she has to deal with teachers that don't care and are there to collect a pay checkParent Review2y ago - Epiphany Cathedral School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHad a very traumatic experience to say the least. Very sad to say the school is ran by a very incapable principal who does not know how to handle issues at the school and instead opts to expel students instead of addressing issues with the teachers. Not a safe environment for minorities due to the lack of support from teachers and the counselor who is very incompetent to be conservative. There are some good apples, few, but overall due to the lack of good leadership the students often pay the price and no change takes place.Parent Review2mo ago - International Montessori Academy
