Read what parents are saying about Fleming Island Elementary SchoolI have a special needs ASD child who started kindergarten at this school and only attended 21 full days of kindergarten and received 7 referrals. Despite the high ranking I did not see or experience the exceptionally for my special needs and military dependent child.
Posted by a parent on 10/1/2023Education seems to be a huge issue at this school. Kids are making awesome grades but why wouldn't they ...tests are open book, they get multiple opportunities to retake tests and quizzes. Classwork and Homework account for more than test grades and quizzes and participation grades are in some classes 30% on their grade. I have other kids that go to different schools in other counties , FIE is a joke, these kids are far behind in education , they struggle with essay writing and basic math yet seem to do well on FSA... Something needs to be looked at!!!
Posted by a parent on 11/9/2020This is our first year at this school, and I have been very impressed. They have been quick to identify issues, and come up with a plan to help. The staff has been wonderful, and always seem so happy.

He is making good grades and enjoys learning here. Nothing but all positive experiences here and grateful he is in such a great school.Parent Review2y ago - Lakeside Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love LES. Been attending since Kindergarten and couldn't be happier. I wouldn't consider any other school. LES is headed by a strong principal, Ms. Wolfe, and the admin team is kind and supportive. Overall, the teachers are caring and supportive, you can bring your concerns to them and they'll work with you to find a solution. They're involved in the community and are willing to stop and say hello even on a random weekend sighting. Any time I've had questions, they have fully responded in a timely manner. I look forward to another successful year for my child this year and will be sad when he leaves to Jr. High in 2 years. Go Lakers!Parent Review8mo ago - Fleming Island High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school is great! We help our children with their homework and assist them in understanding what is proctored in the classroom. People forget that schools are set to share education and knowledge with their students. Parents & Guardians still have the responsibility to ensure their kids are well behaved, that they are learning what they should, if they have a learning disability they need to work with their child and maybe even get a tutor after hours to help them be the best they can be and most importantly to (again) ensure there is discipline at home and away from home. We try to have lunch with our kids at school a few times every a school year and we also try to stay involved in their activities every day. Is every teacher great!? Not so much, just like everything. Some are better than others, just like in every job category. But overall, the school is fantastic and the staff aims to set and maintain a higher standard for everyone. As a tax payer and a parent of two, I appreciate what the folks at Thunderbolt Elementary are doing for the school and for the community.Parent Review1y ago - Berean Christian Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a small business owner that has employed graduates of this school and sponsored many of their sports and extracurricular activities. Interacting with the teachers, staff, and students has been remarkable. I have been invited to and attended graduations, recitals, and programs for years here. These kids are taught to read, write, and have character, which is grossly lacking in most young people. Highly recommend this school.Other Review2y ago - St Johns Country Day School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth of our children attended SJCDS from PK - 12th grade; I’m a former long-time faculty member. This review overwrites one I left in early June & is in regard to the June 30th review, which seems to be a rebuttal to my prior one. I suspect (I’m not sure) that the reviewer is a current/former board member or spouse, as well as a former parent. Regardless, the reviewer was unable to address the lack of communication with & unprofessional treatment of at least faculty/staff — currently a big problem at St. Johns. Previously, I couldn’t recommend this school more highly. There are still many caring, qualified faculty/staff members there, but the board hired two inept, unprofessional people to upper administration. One of them is gone now, but top admin lacks in educational experience, professionalism, and empathy. It’s unacceptable & inexcusable at an educational institution & has negatively changed the atmosphere of the school. Current faculty & staff provide a buffer for students while keeping their own heads down and doing the best they can. I don’t need to brag about either of our children’s accomplishments. SJ helped us raise two kind, successful kids; both are now college students doing fine academically — & more importantly — with life in general. The faculty, staff, & previous administration absolutely guided students to success in many areas. Unfortunately, the new top administration has gutted faculty & staff morale. Recently at this school: The head decided to open up department chair spots to give other faculty opportunities — great! However, it was unprofessional to make this announcement to the entire faculty without first advising the teachers who held those positions at the time (I wasn’t among them). Another gem: The head eliminated my position without at least informing my department chair, until after the fact. She informed me between classes (not at day’s end) that my position was being cut for the next year. This isn’t “sour grapes;” it’s about an unprofessional, uncaring way to relay important, sensitive information. I refused to sign a non-disparagement contract; I wanted to talk about the lack of professionalism & decency. Many longtime parents (at least those not associated with the board) & employees know: The old St. Johns is gone. I’m thankful we were there for the good years! We are glad to be done with the school as it currently exists; I never dreamed I’d say that, & it saddens me. Until/unless things change, look elsewhere!Other Review1y ago - Sonlight Christian Academy
