Read what parents are saying about Southwest Elementary SchoolMy child was treated unfairly. My child's teacher's (my child was switched twice) was unfair. My child was not taught properly. I got in trouble for trying to get the information I needed for my child to succeed. The teacher yelled at me. I reported her and not much happened. A teacher should not act like that. The next teacher expected my child to know things I did not know my child needed to know because the previous teacher would not tell me. I took my child out of this school at the end of the semester due to the unfairness. My child has missed a lot of school due to being treated unfairly from this school. To the point where it is messing up their attendance even for being sick. Plus since being in another school I see just how much work this school puts on their kids. The work is beyond hard for them. The teacher did tell me he was doing 3rd grade work in 2nd grade to help with test scores. They are shoving school work down their throats. He likes the school he is in now so much more. This school says they are a good school and they care but they do not. They only care about test scores. I do not recommend this school at all.
Posted by a parent on 3/20/2014This is the BEST school in the WHOLE-WIDE WORLD!!!!!!!! My two children have excelled there and have had WONDERFUL teachers. EVERYONE there...from the FABULOUS resource teachers to the COMPASSIONATE classroom teachers to the FRIENDLY OFFICE STAFF...to the AMAZING principal...WE LOVE SOUTHWEST!!!!!!!
Posted by a parent on 5/22/2013This school is "hometown charm" at its best! My daughter attended here from kindergarten through fifth grade. The teachers take a personal interest in the success of their students. Extra music, art and computer programs add richness to their education. The principal is devoted to the school's success. She knows every student by name, and works with families to make sure that each family feels welcomed and valued at SWE.
Posted by a parent on 5/22/2013Everything about this school is FIVE star. The teachers, the office staff, the paras, the students, the custodians, and the cafeteria workers. The principal knows EVERY (400+) child's name and home situation. You won't find this Principal in her office much, she is always in a classroom, walking a student by the hand down the hall or wiping tears from a crying kindergartener. I have been in SEVERAL classrooms during "teaching" time and everyone visit has been impressive. Anyone that says this school is less than awesome needs their head examined!
Posted by a community member on 5/22/2013I went to this school for 6 years, I loved it there and unlike what the parent who submitted their review on October 21 2011 this school was by far the best school I have ever gone to. And also the teachers deserve the credit for the schools rating because the teachers have to teach the children so it really is both the teachers and the students success. We did have recess but it stopped at 4th grade because by the time your in 4th grade you shouldn't need a recess. Over all the atmosphere was great and the kids were under control. All of the teachers I had were very nice and so were most of the children.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy second day of school for my special needs kid and I was running late because I didn't plan on the long red light. The assistant principal meets me out side in an abrasive and confrontational manner and threatens to take my son's "privelage" of having a RBT away. The principals I had a conversation and he scoffed at me when I said it was important for my son to have an RBT because my son can't communicate if he's hurt, where he's hurt, who hurt him, his name, or where he lives. my son can't tell someone he needs help and that to me hinders his ability to stay safe. The RBT is his advocate and helps his behavior so he can learn. And the principal scoffed at me. He also has lit me in saying that there aren't many schools that will allow my son to have a therapist that he needs. I know for a fact this is a lie. This is our SECOND day and I am disgusted with the way I've been treated in making sure my son is comfortable and safe within a new environment. Luckily he likes his class and his teachers but I have a problem with leadership that they can't give leniency to a special needs child on his second day of school. I filed a complaint and I have two different schools that I am communicating with.Parent Review1mo ago - Rosabelle W. Blake Academy

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was a student here at this school. and I can say that this school did in fact not prepare me for high school. I had teachers give word searches instead of teaching, I had a teacher who would constantly try and pick a fight with students. I had a teacher that would throw things at students, when this was brought up to an administrator all she said was." I did it too." how can they allow a teacher to put students in an unsafe situation. some things she threw were chairs books and rulers.Other Review4mo ago - Church Of The Resurrection Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageLCS is an incredible school - I have two children there and would never send them anywhere else! The small class sizes, quality of the facilities (check out the brand new high school opening this year!) and high-quality, long-tenured teachers make it well worth the cost of tuition. Amazing summer camps, too!Parent Review1y ago - St. Joseph's School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have three grandchildren and two great grandchildren as students in Geneva. One is graduating this year and another is a junior. We first visited the school when these two were starting to kindergarten and first grade. It is amazing what they learned! In first grade they learned how to diagram sentences! They studied Latin starting in third grade. In elementary school they memorized heaps of facts using jingles and songs. In the middle years they learn to use these facts and in the last stage they learn to take ideas and establish or defend them. The classes are small and the teachers are excellent. I believe that my grandchildren are prepared for the next stage of their life through the diligent work of the educators at Geneva Classical Academy.Parent Review4y ago - St. Joseph's Academy
