Read what parents are saying about Central Riverside Elementary SchoolTerrible school with terrible communication. My daughter attended kindergarten at this school 2 years ago and she fractured her arm in 2 places at recess and no one contacted me. They sent her to the nurse then sent her back to class with an ice pack. After that I switched her school
Posted by a parent on 9/13/2022My son has been here since kindergarten and now he is in 3 rd grade. He has had awesome teacher thus far. I would likefor the field tripsTo be better
Posted by a parent on 12/6/2019The environment at this school is awesome! The teachers and admin are welcoming and happy. There is a high level of gifted students at this school and the expectations for all students are high. Struggling students may need to try a different school because this one is RIGOROUS. Very happy with my choice!

Posted by a student on 7/26/2016This is our first year, but it has been VERY positive. My son is in 2nd grade & his teacher grouped the kids in the class for each subject, which helps kids who are struggling to get more help while the kids who work above the standard to do more & not get bored- he's learned about square roots already! My daughter is in 5th grade & has wonderful teachers. She has also had very challenging work, and when I went to JWJ for open house I was told that she should do well in middle school because now she was used to the level of work that would be expected of her. Earlier reviewers talked about the negative effects of the neighborhood, but you should be aware that the neighborhood is starting to go through gentrification, so the neighborhood is not as bad as it once was. Also, their magnet program has attracted more high achieving students so the classes can be more challenging. My daughter has 19 kids in her class and less than 5 of them work at a 'normal' level- the rest are either gifted or academically talented. I'm not a fan of the PTA, mainly because I haven't really seen them do anything, but they're getting a new leader next year so hopefully that will change.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son went to Ruth Upson from VPK 2016 till 5th grade 2023 and we could not have asked for a better experience! We have loved ALL of his amazing teachers and staff. They were the ones who realized he needed to be in gifted and helped guide , support and nurture him into being well rounded in all of his studies so much he made it into James Weldon Johnson College Prep JH. I am very proud to have been a Ruth Upson parent.Parent Review7mo ago - Pinedale Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school has gone through a tremendous transformation. My student always comes home with something that she is working towards whether or not that is the FSA Sticker Sheets, this school even had a homework march madness event. The admin and teachers go above and beyond for their students and are always communicating through DOJO and very helpful. I feel blessed to have such a supportive school behind my child to help her get into a college preparatory middle school. Pinedale is an amazing place to send your kids and I am blessed to have my child grow so much academically and behaviorally from the support of this school.Parent Review1y ago - West Jacksonville Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageRPDS has a wonderful reputation and there are very good reasons to send your child to school there. It is well maintained, warm, and the curriculum is well designed (but not particularly well executed so it seems to be somewhat hit or miss in how many kids get to fully access the curriculum). The parents are highly involved, which is typically the hallmark of a “good” school. They have the structure to give a wide swath of children the kind of support they need to thrive, but the availability of that support is only available if parents “play ball”. It seems parent participation is largely a way to achieve and parse influence. We were disappointed that their self-lauded DEI was for the brochure only. Seems a lot of their advertised programs and tactics are “brochure only”. The staff and administration seem staunchly stuck in the 90’s when it comes to educational and social-emotional learning theories and it’s, frankly, cringy to watch.Parent Review1y ago
