I'm an alumna of West Elementary School, having attended the school back in 2008-09. My experiences there have been positive overall. It's by no means a perfect school, but, the teachers there were competent. I'm sure it has gotten better since!
Posted by a community member on 8/15/2024Just Horrible. Mr. Nelson was very, very good. And he only lasted half a year there.What does that tell you? Just horrible administration, brutal, especially from the top. You know what they say, it starts at the top!!

And try to get a meeting about it with the principal forget it. She has the secretary call you and tell you to handle it with the teacher. The school is an f rated scho

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOne of the only mistakes we made when moving to Florida was picking the Desoto County school district. My kids and I have been charged at by off leash dogs at the bus stop twice now and they refuse to move the bus stop 50 yards ahead to a safer area. Worse than this I have a medical diagnosis that prevents me from safely driving, the bus driver left my young child at the school and then berated me because I didn’t have a way to pick him up. Another teacher said right in front of one of my children that I “look like I’m in drugs”. When really I’m just being discriminated against for my disability and when I ask politely for accommodations for my disability in transporting the kids I am further ridiculed and no attempts are made. They fail to see they are no “punishing” me but they are hurting my kids ability to experience after school programs. It should always be about the kids and their safety. At Desoto County schools it appears to be more about passing split second judgements and ridicule than helping families.Parent Review1mo ago - First Assembly Chrn
