North Smyrna Elementary School

I was a former student at this school with a learning disability and it would shock many people to learn that the special education room is a old closet. The "learning material" for the children in special education was cheap learning websites and an hour on tablets. The teachers were below averagely trained with no patience for children disabilities. Would absolutely not recommend. this school is a mess and I would assume most of their budget goes towards events, landscaping, and other useless miscellaneous things to make the school appear more uppity and "proper" than actually providing beneficial experiences for the students.

I'm surprised and a bit disappointed to see this school get a 10 score, it's honestly, NOT. A 5/6 AT BEST! My daughter has been attending this school since 2nd grade, she is now in 5th, the teachers are decent at best. They just do their job children are all numbers to them, no above and beyond. --Granted it's in a decent area so it has the pretty bells and whistles but definitely academic wise such a let down. The extra curriculum at this school consists of PE gym, Art, chorus and what they consider 'tech' which is having your kid sit at a computer playing games for an hour. Luckily my daughter has an IT dad, who has taught her and continues to teach her about TECHNOLOGY and software to get her familiarized. It's honestly mind numbing work, my daughter dislikes it, if you're not a wino mom that contributes heavily to this school, you're unimportant to their tight knit PTO committee, further more your child is unimportant! Don't be fooled by the "pretty" and 10 rating, the children ALL have open book tests and it seems they state test ALL YEAR LONG! What happened to educating our children? Not test them to numbness! Testing is all OPEN BOOK so that of course they get great grades and state funding stays in tact. Trust this review, I'm a mother of travel and I am very invested in my daughters HIGHER education but trust, you won't get that here! SHOP AROUND!!

I do not believe the school is a good environment. Children are criticized and bullied by the other children whose parents are predominantly in charge of PTO and policy. Children are not allowed to complain and when they do the blame is put on the child. All in the spirit of keeping their numbers low. Let's face it if there's never a statement taken then there's no report to file so their numbers never reflect these issues

I’m extremely disappointed with the leadership at this school. The principal has shown a lack of professionalism and does not appear to effectively manage staff or address ongoing concerns.There are repeated issues with certain teachers engaging in inappropriate interactions with students, including arguing rather than de-escalating situations. This creates an environment that feels tense and unproductive for children.Multiple concerns have been raised, yet there seems to be little to no meaningful action taken by administration. Communication is often unclear, and accountability appears to be lacking across the board.Overall, the school environment feels disorganized and poorly managed. Families deserve a safe, respectful, and well-run school, and unfortunately, this has not been our experience.

The students feel important and cared for, while receiving an excellent education. My child loves going to school everyday.
