To give an update- both field hockey and lacrosse have been incorporated as official school sports. A new high school building was just recently opened in April of 2013. Ceilings, walls, and bathrooms are no longer falling apart; there is also much better climate control throughout the new school. T
Posted by a student on 8/15/2013Brand new high school just being finished, so the age of the building being a 2013 build makes it state of the art. It will be interesting to see how the students and teachers find the new learning environment to be. That won't be known until next year after both students and faculty get settled in

The budget is being channeled to build a new school, but basic maintenance is not being done. Teachers are good, but how long can they keep positive attitudes and work in decrepit conditions? The

I had the experience by phone first, the receptionist was cold, unfriendly, and not helpful at all. I found the same behavior in the women attending the front desk, they never greeted me, ignored me while I was there waiting for being "attended", kept chit-chatting and it took the 3 of them to be helpful at all. Principal leads administrative team with positive energy; teachers are energetic and creative; all staff I have interacted with have demonstrated that they are happy to be at Winthrop. Student behavior expectations are clearly defined and consistently modeled and reinforced (my son has not experienced bullying). The PTO is well organized and very active, and interested parents may run for School Governance Council.
