Westover School

We have been a Westover family since 2018 and now have two children there: one in 1st grade and one in 4th. The administrators and teachers are incredibly dedicated and our children are thriving in their classes. They care deeply about the students and really work to build direct connections with all Westover families. The school itself has a specialty focus on the arts - think music, drama, dance, problem solving, media/tech, and art - making it a standout when so many other schools have moved to reduce or cut those programs from their curriculums. Additionally, even though it's one of the largest elementary schools in Stamford, there's a real sense of community here. Post-COVID, the school has offered so many opportunities for families to get involved - it's really refreshing, and I hope it only continues. Note that Westover is a magnet school and therefore, most parents have to apply for their child(ren) to attend through the city's annual school lottery process. It's highly competitive and a coveted school to attend, so spots go quickly.

My grandson was being bullied and I waited for the principal to call me all day after going to the school introducing myself two days in a row to the vice principal. Then to find out they called Child care services and still hadn’t called me. It seems there trying to label my grandchild instead of handling the situation I’m frustrated and had to get my Atterney involved this is total discrimination

Excellent experience! Great teachers who care about the students.

This is only our first year, but it has been great. My child is already reading and writing simple sentences in Kindergarten (it is only February, so I can't wait to see what more she does), she loves going to school and hates missing out if she is sick. It is only Kindergarten, but she is doing well. She has a great diverse class. Whenever I email the teachers, they respond quickly. What is great about this school is not only is the education top notch, but there are other outlets for kids to have fun besides just recess such as their rotation in dance, drama, art, gym etc. In Kindergarten they also have centers where they can pick arts and crafts, or playing on the ipad etc. They just started a short period of after school enrichment programs (which is by lottery but there is a high chance in getting into one of the 3 choices you put down). They have programs this year like beginning coding, Mad Science, Sports, arts and crafts and a bunch more I can't remember. The school itself is nice and clean. So far this is only our first year, but it has been great. The principal is nice and very much a stickler for providing the best education to our students. Speaking to some other parents, they are very happy with the program and are also amazed with what their children have been accomplishing as well.

Best school hands down in Stamford. Principal is by far the most hands on and experienced I have seen. Anyone who says differently should look at other schools and see what they would be missing out on.. Would highly recommend.
