Monument Charter Academy

I have only been here a few weeks, but have been communicating with the school well before we got here. I have kids with ADHD but they are not by any means disabled by it. My son gets emotional at times so I wanted to talk to his teacher before he started school so she knew how to handle him in the case that he did have an issue in class. I also like to have him with a nurturing female because he works best with them. Ms. Day was very accommodating to us. My son and two daughters are all at this school this year and doing wonderful. I don't see why people would be complaining. Homework is part of school and as you get older you should expect more. 1 hour per grade year if you are doing more than that then your child is struggling and you need to talk to the teachers.

I'm not sure why this school scores so highly. I suspect because they hold the bright students back and then at the end of th year tests they perform better than average. My child was not pushed or engaged in any way. Homework inconsistent from class to class. Issues with bullying that were not addressed and when I spoke to the teacher and principal, it was immediately a defensive approach. Principal can't even answer simple questions without an attitude. She's plain rude. As for the bullying. I found out later on that even after I addressed the issues, thought they were resolved, my child was paired up in the specials and had to share a locker with the girl who caused my daughter to feign illness so she could avoid school. Noone cares at all about the well being of the students and my daughter learnt nothing. In her new school she was in an advanced language arts and reading. She was 2nd grade with 5th grade reading ability. When I questioned her class teacher, I was told she was an average reader. Luckily her new school paid more attention and pushed her skills.

We moved our children from Monument Academy, and are so happy to be at PW. I waited over a year-before posting this (To be sure that school and learning could be so pleasant and stress-minimal)From the front end staff to the Principal, these are kind, intelligent, approachable people. The teachers are caring and also keep things in control-with correction of issues and behaviour when it is needed. They lead with good values and by example. (Instead of speaking of Integrity that was in short measure, which was the trend at their previous school) It is such a creative, and caring place. The small student population is really nice. Everyone pretty much knows each other. It's a really solid education, and a sweet little place.

My son has an IEP and has been supported by this school since he was in preschool. The administrators are top notch and truely care about every student.
