My granddaughter enrolled in “preschool” 2022-2023 but it was more like a daycare because her class has 2-5 year olds. She has never been away from her mom, and cried everyday that she went. She did not seem to be learning anything. It was a stressful experience for her and the teachers did not care if she was upset and never wanted to go. She told me that her teachers would be mean to her when she cried. One day we drove past the school, and she started begging not to go there. We weren’t there long. I don’t recommend it

Since the above-mentioned change in leadership in 2018, the school has improved by leaps and bounds. It's an amazing place for my kids to go to school. The teachers are great, the class sizes are small, we've got a brand-new playground (as of Sept 2020), and the school director is fabulous.

This school is known for favoring high achievers, and the children of popular long time residents. We've lived here for a while, and our child does very well, so it hasn't been an issue for us. But it seems like the "problem" students are often... let's say - encouraged to seek other opportunities. I have to admit it makes for a more focused and positive experience for the kids who find their place there... But it's certainly not fair... Lot's of things in life are't fair, and how much weight that criticism should carry is debatable... But that's what it is. Some great teachers, a couple of lousey ones. Upper management seems a little neurotic and irrational.... But not more so that as is on offer at other schools. And for a student body that comes from a wide variety of circumstances (I'm sure there are famies there who live on $250+k/yr, while others live on $25k+/yr) the sense of community between the families is really dynamic and pretty healthy. No place is perfect, but at least this isn't Compton, nor is it Exeter. For such a small communiy, and a pretty adversarial relationship between the GCS Administration and the Clear Creek Public District Administration, I think these folks do pretty well.

We transferred our children to Georgetown Community School this year. It is early in the year for a full review, so I will post again if needed. At this point, I am very impressed with the school. Every school day starts with a full community assembly orchestrated by the Principal and Vice Principal. The assembly includes parents in giving strong, positive messages to the students that they can carry with them throughout the day. Being a school in a small mountain town, I am sure the teachers are working for less and giving much more. As a parent, I feel motivated to volunteer to help this amazing effort and feel that the school welcomes parent and community volunteers. The CSAP scores are high and the community is strong.

GCS is a truly magical place to work. The children, parents, teachers and community members collaborate to provide a nurturing and challenging academic environment for every student from 6 weeks to 6th grade. Never before have I been lucky enough to teach at a school where I know every student by name and have such an amazing group of people around me on a daily basis who truly love the students and our school.
