Read what parents are saying about Tavelli Elementary SchoolOverall not a bad school academically, policies on bullying need to be taken more seriously and politics need to be less apparent to parents and staff.
Posted by a parent on 12/18/2019Poor leadership, bad communication. Teachers that are not administration and do not have creditials to be leadership have leadership roles. Too many sets of rules... Too many safety issues and no ownership.
Posted by a parent on 9/4/2018We are a new family to Tavelli in 2015 and our experience from Day 1 has been excellent. The highlight for me, as a parent, is the access I feel like I have to the principal, staff and teachers. The communication has consistently been timely, open, and solutions oriented. I have found the social dynamics in the classrooms and on the playground to be very positive and inclusive, with few disruptive behaviors or issues with bullying - something we experienced too much of at our previous school. Both of my kids are thriving academically. Love the emphasis and integration of the Arts into everyday life at Tavelli. A great school! I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars, because we've only experienced one year so far!
Posted by a community member on 8/7/2015The teachers and administration at this school are fantastic. Great positive energy. The community that supports this school is working class and the school has many behavioral issues and kids of families who are not involved. Tavelli is a huge school (almost 600 kids) and behavioral issues and family apathy make learning and education challenging. We have been here one year and I hate to say it but unfortunately, my kids have made limited academic progress.
Posted by a parent on 8/11/2014We moved here from Wyoming where we didn't think the school system could get any better and I couldn't have been more wrong! The staff of Tavelli is amazing. The education and dedication to the kids is outstanding! We are so proud to be a part of such an amazing school. My three girls have attended the past three years and I can hands down say, it's been a wonderful experience! Way to be Tavelli, thanks for all you do for the kids!!

With only 200 students, teachers and admin know every single student by name. They are committed to growth and consistency for each child. The principal and assistant principal are outside on the playground at recess and greeting students as they come in the building (and leave for home) every day. They have the highest academic growth in the entire district, but more importantly - they take nurturing little hearts very seriously. I can't sing their praises enough...we LOVE Putnam!Parent Review7mo ago - Harris Bilingual Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHarris Bilingual School's dual language approach does not work well to teach native English-speaking students to communicate in Spanish. From first grade through third grade, students focus mainly on their native language (English or Spanish) in two separate groups. Starting in fourth grade, there is an attempt to merge the two groups and increase the amount of Spanish instruction, however, at that point, native English-speaking students do not have the Spanish-language foundation necessary to understand the grade-level texts that continue to be used year after year. Students are not encouraged to make an effort when it comes to speaking in their non-native language. Teachers often translate texts into English to "help" students understand. This doesn't help students to step outside their comfort zone of their native language. Harris switches between English weeks and Spanish weeks, the goal being to speak the language of the week. However, there is very little Spanish spoken in either week by teachers - particularly to native English-speaking students.Parent Review5mo ago - Laurel Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been enrolled at Laurel Elementary for four years now and very much looking forward to many more with our other children. We have come to love many teachers/staff there. They have shown time and time again that they go above and beyond on a daily basis. They are committed to the success and well-being of each child. Any concerns we have had have been met with an immediate response. Although the school is adjacent to a neighboring public park, we have never felt unsafe on school grounds before, during or after school. My child is happy and thriving as a Laurel Lynx.Parent Review1y ago - Heritage Christian Academy

I was so pleased with what I saw that I enrolled my daughter that day. That was eight years ago, and I have absolutely no regrets. The St. Joseph Catholic School is a truly loving place where our Catholic Christian faith is put into action. The principal and teachers support me in my responsibility to educate my children in the ways of our faith. My children are free to express their love for God through prayer and celebration of the sacraments. Their education explains how God is present in everything around them. The staff is challenging my children to use all of their God-given gifts and preparing them for high school and beyond through academic excellence, participation in service programs and recognition and reinforcement of Christian virtues. I would not send my children anywhere else!Parent Review1y ago
