Rocky Mountain Prep Berkeley

We have been incredibly impressed with this dual language elementary school. The academic program is rigorous and engaging, providing students with a strong foundation while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and a love of learning. The dual language model is thoughtfully implemented, allowing students to develop fluency and confidence in two languages while gaining a deeper appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. What truly sets this school apart is its strong sense of community and belonging. From the moment you walk through the doors, you can feel the welcoming and inclusive culture. Teachers, staff, and families work together to create an environment where every child feels seen, valued, and supported. The school celebrates diversity and encourages students to embrace their identities while learning from one another. The dedicated educators go above and beyond to ensure students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. There is a genuine commitment to building meaningful relationships and creating a positive school experience for every child. We are grateful to be part of a school community that prioritizes excellence, cultural enrichment, and connection. This is a place where students don't just learn—they truly belong.

This is our fourth year at Centennial. The teachers are amazing with many years of experience. They treat your child with patience and kindness. The Expeditionary Learning model allows your child to engage in hands on in-depth study of subjects…and our principal Emily is fabulous! She is caring, communicative, and a great asset to the school.

As a parent, a unicorn school is one that feels safe, has great teachers, and a collaborative administration. Edison feels relatively safe, and all teachers we've had have been great — each trained to identify and handle gifted students. That alone makes this a good school. It would be a great school if the administration were better. The principal's strengths are in managing the school operationally, but leadership, conflict resolution, and genuine engagement with parents are not among them. She tends to see parents as adversaries and pushes their concerns toward the (admittedly well-run) PTA. The enrollment staff is notably unwelcoming — in our experience and in conversations with other families. If you sail into this school easily and never interact with the administration, you will enjoy Edison and your kids will test well through the grades. If you're looking for a collaborative administration, diversity, and general empathy for children, you may be better served elsewhere.

ur experience at Valdez School has been very positive. It is an excellent school where they truly care about their students and families. The principal is always willing to listen when a problem arises and works to find solutions with empathy and commitment. The dedication and perseverance of the teachers have made a significant difference in my children’s academic and personal growth. We are very grateful for the support and quality education they provide.

Wonderful school and community. My kids have been at SPPS for over a year now and the community and experience just gets better and better. The teachers are experienced and caring, the staff/admin truly cares about your children. My children are learning and have a stronger mastery of their subjects than friends with kids at other schools. I have been so happy to have people in our corner at SPPS who are keeping our best interests in mind. Also, there are many opportunities to build a strong network of friends as a parent. There are many volunteer opportunities and other parents really go the extra mile to get to know one another and invite kids to parties and events. This community seems to be in a renaissance and truly it feels more and more fun to be a part of it. I will say that the more you put in the more you will get out. I have taken the time to volunteer and talk with people and it has paid many dividends for our family. Couldn’t recommend this school more!
