Read what parents are saying about Cortez Middle SchoolThe band teacher has left my child alone twice in public. On one occasion she got into a strangers vehicle! The school dance was from 4:30 to 5:30. She gets home from school at 4:45. What smarty thought of that?! I'm tired of this school district. The 4 day school week only benefits the teachers? Then why are we still doing it? My child had to ask for help 2 different times from the math teacher because she thought it shouldn't be necessary?? Now that teacher has resigned, my daughter raised her grade and was still moved to a different math class. It seems like nobody cares about anything in this town.
Posted by a parent on 2/15/2024My daughter was nervous going into middle school but she just made it through her eighth grade year and has progressed so much. The staff do such a great job working with these tweens and teens. It’s such a tough job but they’re awesome.
Posted by a parent on 6/30/2021My kid had an okay experience here. What bothered my kid the most was all the testing that they go through.
Posted by a parent on 5/8/2015My kids had a very good experience at Cortez Middle School. They recieved a solid education and enjoyed the many different activities/sports that they offer. A friendly atmosphere, caring teachers, and strong academics really helped them in their high school years. CMS rocks! Whoever wrote that this school was not good must be angry at someone!!!
Posted by a parent on 1/12/2012CMS only has 4 day school weeks due to budget cuts, and this greatly affects student learning time. The numerous breaks result in a lackadaisical attitude in both the students and teachers. Though many of the students have positive relationships with their teachers, they aren't receiving a quality education. You can see that this is true when you look at how much the school's test scores fall below the state standards. In an attempt to improve these scores, teachers simply make the work easier, trying to get further in their lessons instead of trying to take the time in making sure students truly understand the material taught to them. Besides the lack of a good education, CMS also falls short in student behavior. The hallways are full of curse words and racist comments. Teachers have stopped trying to end these common exchanges. Many students have no respect for people with different religious or political views and there is nobody to teach them differently. This creates a very negative learning environment. CMS definitely needs some serious changes.
