Welby Way Elementary Charter School

Hi everyone, I have read some of the reviews on this website and it’s confusing to me. I am the father of two children that attended will be way from kindergarten to fifth grade. Both my children had an outstanding experience with all their teachers and the school program, my son moved on to Hale middle school following his sister. And my daughter is now attending El Camino high school. I feel that Welbyway elementry did an outstanding job with preparing my kids for their educational path.

The only reason I still have my kid here is the magnet program which I don't even know if it's worth it.Teachers do not come to gate to dismiss students. Only one person is present at the gate and she would just make sure a kid goes to an adult, that's it!!Their after school program is basically keeping the kids on the yard to be picked up. No activities or homework help. Only playing outside if your kid is active.Very heavy on donation. Don't have PTA have their own non profit organization for collecting donations for class and school on a regular basis.Teachers are ok but room parents ask for way so much gifts for teachers who are basically doing their job. No too much creativity programs like crafts/arts or projects.

Teachers are very rude! Stay away if your kid’s mental health is more important than their education.

We are on our second child at welby way magnet. We have to commute, but it’s well worth the drive. My kids both had amazing teachers. Both were/is thriving! I would absolutely recommend welby to anyone, but especially to the student who need the extra stimulation and challenges! We have been very fortunate with our teachers, kids and parents. Parent involvement is welcome and truly welby is a community!

My oldest son attended Welby Way from kindergarten through fifth grade. It was an amazing experience. He absolutely loved his school, as did I. My second child is now in fourth grade at Welby Way. He had one bad teacher, that has since retired. However, he loves Welby Way just as much as his older brother did. I feel somewhat disconnected from the school now, due to the closed campus, but I think that is the state of most LAUSD schools right now. Overall, both my children thrived socially, emotionally and academically at Welby Way. I highly recommend this school.
