Cumberland Elementary School

We have two kids at Cumberland, and ever since our older one started Kindergarten here, we've loved being part of this community. And more importantly, our kids have had a very fulfilling and supportive experience, from the dedicated teachers and staff, all the opportunities from the school's very engaged PTA community of volunteers, and all of the programs the school offers. The administrative staff and all the teachers we've had at Cumberland have worked really, really hard to process their students with a great experience. We love it here and would recommend it to anyone. Despite the outdated Great Schools data, Cumberland gets a 10/10 rating from our family, and this school is a California Distinguished School for a reason. We went to Cumberland for 5 years and had 3 kids. Everything changed when Mrs. Carlson arrived. She behaves like a robot, zero humanity and don’t listen to parents or students. I have soooo many talks about this qith other moms. The school is lacking academics every year more and more. They only teach the basic, no homework, no test, movie day every 2 weeks and not evolution. We move this year to another school and WOW we could see the difference!!! We have test every term and we can see how the kids are doing and can measure the progress during the year. PTA is strong and really good.

Cumberland is a tremendous school. During my 6 years there as a student, I had a fantastic experience and felt nothing but the best from all the teachers and staff. I learned a lot, and felt like I had a lot of opportunities to grow. Traits of respect, responsibility, and making good choices were taught to us, and my time there made me a smarter, kinder, better person as well as a leader. Truly a fabulous school and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Cumberland Elementary is a school that does not prioritize or even pay any focus to academics. From not believing in homework to teaching to the lowest common denominator, it is probably the worst place for any child to be to learn anything. They do not prepare students with the tools or knowledge to do well in middle school or life in general. If you view school as just daycare, then Cumberland does fine with this. Students there test fine because most of them have parents who supplement their education with schooling outside of Cumberland. If you aren’t willing to do this, then go someplace else.

Cumberland has such an amazing community of parents, teachers, administrators and students. Students are enable to perform at their best academically and socially. I've seen my son who is now in 3rd grade grow so much since kindergarten and now exciting to be sending my youngest to kindergarten this year as well. The PTA is very engaged and runs an annual walkathon among many other programs. Beyond the outstanding academics, it's the FAME art program, Project Cornerstone reading and the robust selection of after school programs that set the school apart. This year science fair and drama are coming back. You just don't get this type of programing at the private schools or really not at most of the public schools that i am aware of. Beyond having an international day, our school is truly very diverse and works very hard to support kids from all income brackets and cultural backgrounds. If you want top notch education, send your kids to Cumberland!
