Read what parents are saying about SunRidge Charter SchoolIt seems loving and caring. However, it’s not loving to set a student up for failure later in life. I trusted Sunridge and they left my child several grades behind when it was time to transfer. It took almost two years of tutoring to get my child at grade level. There’s just not enough academic exposure. I worry about all the students who blindly think they are doing great. I was told my son was doing wonderful. The reality in high school won’t be pretty.
Posted by a parent on 11/18/2019My children have been in the school for seven years. We have been so happy with the teachers, the leadership, the other children, and the warmth and engagement of the parent body. The curriculum is engaging and dynamic! We have been so blessed to have been able to have our children growing up in this school .I love that the Waldorf curriculum is combined with meeting the state standards, as I feel like this is the best of both worlds. In reading the last person’s review, it is so sad that they had that experience. I am very involved with the parent body and I’ve never heard of another person saying anything similar. The school has adopted a conflict resolution program. Under the supervision of the teachers, the older students in seven and eighth grade go about the playground during recess and help the kids work through any conflicts they may be experiencing. The children went thru a training program to do this, making sure the kids are met in a positive and respectful way..I truly couldn’t recommend Sunridge more!
Posted by a parent on 10/8/2018Don't send your child here. I believe my child was NOT emotionally or physically safe! The response to issues of bullying is dogmatic and leaves the burden to the victim. My child came home with bruises many, many times. The director (principle) of the program was sympathetic but completely ineffective in dealing with stopping the assaultive behaviors. I highly recommend considering another school! If I could give a zero star I would.
Posted by a parent on 3/24/2015My daughter has been at Sunridge for 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th grades so far. She has thoroughly enjoyed it. She wanted to try another school for 5th and hated it bitterly. I love the community of parents ~ mostly non-judgmental, conscious folks from varied backgrounds. The staff is very caring to each individual. It is a smaller school so most everyone knows each other at least to some extent. They have a great 'buddy' program to integrate the upper and lower grades and also have 'exploratory' classes to integrate the older grades together by similar interests. The teachers I have dealt with are capable, have good communication, and offer insights on parenting as well as class dynamics and how your child is fitting into the puzzle. There are many opportunities to volunteer (which are expected to be seized upon) and the time spent with the children is enjoyable. I know every child and parent in our class by name. I love that. I am thankful we found this lovely school.
Posted by a parent on 1/27/2014I have had 2 kids at this school, and I must say that this year the school has moved to a whole new level. Not only has their campus been expanded, the new teachers are top notch and complement the teachers that have been there for years. The community is very strong, and supportive especially for new comers. The principal knows all the kids by their name! Sebastopol is one lucky place!

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWhen my kindergartener started school all seemed well initially. However, one day I picked up my daughter and she told me through tears that the teacher had grabbed her and drug her across the classroom floor. I called the principal immediately and she suggested the teacher and I speak on the phone. The teacher called me and was immediately defensive, stating that my daughter was lying. She said my daughter was just embarrassed because she got in trouble for talking to a friend. I asked for the teachers version of events which changed multiple times and was riddled with excuses. Each time I attempted to speak she cut me off and was incredibly rude. The conversation was VERY unprofessional, I explained the conversation did not feel productive and that I should go which made her upset. She then began attacking my parenting because my daughter had missed school due to illness (that is normal). I explained I no longer felt comfortable with my daughter returning to her class. That is when her teenage daughter (who I had no clue was even present) started to scream at me through the phone. I filed a formal complaint and removed my daughter from the school that day. I left my son as he was having a great experience with his teacher/friends. Unfortunately, just 3 days before the end of the school year I went to pickup my son from the bus stop and he was not there. I called the school immediately and they had no clue where my son was and informed me that his stop had been removed for the remainder of the year. I was then advised to call the bus company. Thankfully, I got ahold of the bus company who rerouted my son to the school. For an hour I did not know what happened to my son or where he was. He should have never been put on the bus. I drove up to the school and found my son crying outside all by himself. No staff bothered to ensure he was okay after the ordeal. This school does have some great teachers and staff but these two events ruined our entire experience. I have since heard from multiple people that this teacher is known for this behavior. This school apparently used to be great but has been going down hill in recent years. We moved my daughter to a new school and she is absolutely thriving and happy as can be. I had no clue how much we were missing out on. My daughter went from being behind and doing absolutely nothing at school to coming home with all sorts of projects and is catching up to her peers after being terribly behind.Parent Review9mo ago - Orchard View School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe had a fantastic experience at this school. Our son just graduated early with 42 college credits. The teachers are very special. The teachers at OVS seem to love what they do. We got very lucky to have Sunny as a supervising teacher. I don't have the words to express our gratitude for her involvement in helping my son apply to the next step of his life, for her patience with our son, and her recommendations for him. To end his journey she gave him a book that she picked out just for him. Thank you OVS for a great experience, awesome prom (last year), great new principal and for giving us Sunny!Parent Review1y ago - Sebastopol Independent Charter School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school offers the best of Waldorf education and the best of conventional public school programs. The special ed is robust and caring. The class teachers are incredibly dedicated. All subject matter is brought to the students with creativity and beauty. The "looping" - one teacher is with the class grades 1 - 5, another 6 - 8 - allows a strong connection to form between each teacher and his/her students. The bond between classmates is also strong. The administration is thoughtful and responsive.Parent Review7mo ago - Brook Haven Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school provides a safe, comfortable environment for the children and volunteers. I love that there is still a country feeling to the school, yet the structure is progressive by being an IB school. I appreciate the staff for all that they have done for our family. We highly recommend Parkside.Parent Review8y ago - Redwood Christian School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIts almost comical to read one of the previous posts from a former staff member about the high turnover and the promised benefits that did not happen. hmmmmm. sounds like someone was asked to a do a job and agreed to a pay then wanted more after they realized how hard the work was...just like every other front line position in almost any industry. i've seen sooo many employees look over the fence and say hey "I can make a lot more money and not have boys yelling at me or cussing me out" and leave only to switch jobs 2 or 3 more times before they're back living with family finding odds jobs here and there. Wake up folks! If it was easy, everyone would be doing it...right?! get a grip and realize that these kids are here because there are very few options for them...parents are incarcerated or homeless or still abusive and the public school maybe has one special resources assistant per class helping the "special" kid in class in between facebook posts and texting their other college drop out friends. what greenacres needs to do is expand so they can accept more kids and get them the genuine care they so desperately need!!!!Other Review9y ago - Willow Spring School
