Dorris-Eaton School, The

My son (Scott Nystrom) went to Dorris Eaton from 1 thru 6 grade (the old Walnut Creek campus). My wife wanted him to have a more normal social experience in Junior High School so we moved him to Los Cerros Middle School in Danville. It concerned me that he was not studying much. He did all his homework but did not spend much time studying. When I complained he said "Dad I have it under control" When I pushed him he told me he had the same courses at Dorris Eaton in the 5th & 6th grades - same books also. Conclusion is the best public schools (San Ramon Valley School District) are two (2) years behind Dorris Eaton. Scott got straight A's at Los Cerros without studying because he had the same courses at Dorris Eaton. His academic preparation at Dorris Eaton was EXCELLENT. He went on to Robert Louis Stevenson in Pebble Beach and got early admission to PRINCETON where he graduated with HONORS. His excellent academics all started at Dorris Eaton.

Best 3 years I'd had of school, definitely wish I was still there. The curriculum was definitely challenging, but manageable. Teachers were very helpful and kind, and taught many useful skills for high school, especially in helping me improve my skills in the liberal arts area. Brother currently enjoys the school, and I would definitely send my kids here in the future.

good education and I personally love the school

I had a horrible time at this school. So much money every year and the teachers don't treat you well if you're not a certain kind of learner. The competition in this school is insane and unhealthy at such a young age. Teachers aren't supportive and don't care for the majority of their students. Don't waste your money.

my kid had a very great time in DE. she loves the changes in academics and made a lot of friends. I do not agree with previous review said the school is in old school methods of memorization and doing paper after paper. Practice is very important in learning, whatever that is piano / ballet or math. You have to think and try different approaches instead of simply repeating. Almost every kid there learns at least one instrument, at least one sports. I believe they are well developed mentally and physically.
