Saint Brigid Academy

My oldest child went here for Kindergarten, but sadly he will not be able to attend first grade here because we are moving out of the district because my husband got a job in Fresno. The teachers here are lovely and great at their jobs. They are great with communication too.

Sherman Elementary has been everything I wanted in my children's school experience:Community: *extremely* diverse in every way - there is no "token" anyone nor a feeling of a majority. Every socio-economic background, every learning type, every faith, many languages, every race and ethnicity. There is space for everyone! It is also a very warm and welcoming community that really knows each kid by name and need. As a parent there is plenty to be a part of (or not!*) and I think the PTA is really doing their best to get representation from everyone at meetings but that is not always easy for a myriad of reasons. The intent and care is there though. *there is no pressure to "show-up" but people will be happy when you do!Staff: extremely dedicated and caring. I have loved every teacher (and support staff) my kids had over the last 5 years! They have always had my child's best interest at heart and have been attentive to their needs academically and socio-emotionally. I really bonded with each of them in different ways. And they have always been responsive. I also really felt the love they had for my children.Equity: My experience has been that both PTA and leadership have the best interest of all students as a priority. Some may say they focus too much on kids with the greatest need, but I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing :) Small example: We have a community closet for clothing and household items for those in need, and so much more staff are doing to assist in the background.Events: Pumpkinfest (huge Halloween fair and so much fun - great way to get to know the school!!), movie nights, potlucks, garden day (we have a beautiful garden), a Winter Bazaar where kids can shop second hand items for free, and more.Academics: it is standard SFUSD curriculum Everyone will have different experiences based on who they are, who their kids are, their positionality and lens. But for me, this was a great place for me and my kids and I will miss it deeply! Recap: It's warm, diverse, and attentive to learning needs. And it's easy to make friends.

Yick Wo is a top-notch neighborhood school with wonderful teachers and staff, amazing academics, and an amazing PTO. The community has loads of events and fundraisers, and everyone really pitches in. The annual panda chase fundraiser, ice cream socials, and sheer number of events my kids were able to join made us instantly feel welcome. The teachers are fun and engaging (my oldest adores Ms. Lan!) and my kids have learned so much. Many kids walk to school, and its not uncommon to see families socializing outside of school. If you're looking for a school with a strong academic record, a welcoming environment, and a vibrant, engaged community, look no further!

school is outdated and is in need of major repairs

We have a daughter in the lower school and our experience has been wonderful thus far. Our daughter is really learning and she’s very excited about her school with is setting a great precedent for her future education there. The school is very well resourced so the kids get exposure to a variety of subjects, activities, and learning paths. I definitely recommend!

Teachers do not care about students and do not try to help them learn. They grade at an unfair level leading your student to get bad grades that they don't deserve. Teachers don't have credentials to be teaching and are very lousy. I would not recommend bringing your student to this school.
