Posted by a community member on 8/25/2017We are new to Bret Harte but have been pleased with the experience. My child is in the Spanish immersion class, which is new this year. It is an excellent program and my child is absolutely thriving. I recently spent a full day with the class and was very impressed - not just by her teacher but by all of the other teachers that I met. I am a former teacher and I witnessed sound instruction, an emphasis on creativity and critical thinking, and engaged children. In addition to P.E. and art, there is a fabulous Motor Lab and a garden class that was seriously the highlight of my day there. We do not live in the neighborhood but I have felt truly welcomed by the other parents and I am grateful for this. There are so many opportunities at this school for positive cross-cultural partnerships. The SFUSD lottery was such an unnerving process but I feel like we got lucky. We are looking forward to the rest of the school year!

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son loves ER Taylor. He is now in 5th grade and has been attending since Kindergarten. He loved all his teachers and spoke highly of them. We are especially impressed with his State test results. They helped him prepare throughout the years and his score exceeded standard for language/arts/literacy and mathematics. The principal(s), nurse and all staff are great. My younger son is starting kindergarten this year and he has special needs. He attended summer school and seemed to adapt fairly well. I have nothing but love for this school. We are very happy to get placed here.Parent Review1y ago - El Dorado Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis is a great up and coming school with tons of resources. While test scores are low, they are trending in the right direction and additional resources focusing on literacy, wellness and enrichment have been very helpful. Plus, they have a great partner in award-winning nonprofit Real Options for City Kids (R.O.C.K.) that provides daytime support, free after school program and plenty of other resources to support students and their families.Parent Review2y ago - Carver (George Washington) Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am signing the petition to make Malcolm X Academy, K- through 12. The state of our Afro American children, is a state of depression, sadness, madness, stress & anger at times. Afro American families are spending INCREAESD AMOUNTS of time & money to tend to the needs of their children, based on the mental stress that is brought on by the UNACCEPTENCE of social societies & academic pressure to do well under ALL CIRCUMSTANCES... this should not be the fate of our children, only wanting to learn, socialize & be accepted for who they are... Malcolm X Academy, eliminates these pressures & stresses, from their students & families as MUCH as they can, under the circumstances that they ( the staff ) are faced with. Thank u Staff At Malcolm X Academy... my daughter loves attending because of y'all. thank u once again.Parent Review4mo ago - Visitacion Valley Elementary School
