Alta Vista Elementary School

Teachers treated my child awful. The time outs were cruel and unusual. I walked in on my child in a “time-out.”

Once a great school with a strong, rich history. However, sadly over the last decade it has crumbled. The environment is toxic. The school teachers don’t hold proper credentials and the principal doesn’t either. The principal is rude, manipulative and not a good fit for a Christian school. She works through parents that she favors and gives them financial aide while other families who need the support are denied. The principal uses parents to do her dirty work and rallies them to attend school board meetings to arm wrestle the school board- which is made up of church volunteers. The place is a mess. We withdrew our children. There is never an exit interview to actually share your family’s experience. The parents are cliche and run the school. The school culture is one of prima-donnas and elitists, yet they lack sophistication. As a parent I felt like I was part of a mean girls club and that just is not who I want to be. The principal by far is the head mean girl/queen bee. The place is not safe either. The preschool is small and well run and I would recommend. I think enrollment increased after the pandemic, but is declining as parents recognize this isn’t a healthy school.

The new kindergarten teacher has been a great addition to our school this year. She is engaged with the students, plans activities to peak their interest in learning, and is compassionate, and patient. She always has a smile on her face and truly loves our students. My wife and I are very grateful to all of the SLM teachers and the administration.
