St. Peter Martyr Elementary School

My experience and my kid's experience with Heights Elementary School goes back 5 years from today. The school is safe! the school does teach the kids. My kid was struggling with reading, but I do see a lot of improvement and they work with the kids. The teachers have all been friendly and caring. Even with COVID, online learning, getting back in the classroom, the office staff and admin all around I have never had a problem with communication, and everyone has been helpful.

With the exception of Miss Nikki and Miss Sowels, most of the staff seems incompetent, and have no empathy for their students. Safety is not a high priority, and bullying is acceptable. IEP’s are not followed and are often in violation. I’m working on getting my children out of there.

This school is a friendly place to learn. The teachers are very supportive. My first child studied from kindergarten to fifth and she left the school very prepared to go to middle school. Great job Los Medanos!!!!

Such a great community and school! Love the families and students at Parkside. Also, the staff are compassionate, dedicated and are always willing to help in anyway.

The principal of this school, Catherine Borquez, is very bureaucratic and doesn’t really take time for students that require additional support. My child started in their special day class, and then was quickly placed in a mainstream class (with little to no support) at the very beginning of second grade. My child had a lot of difficulty keeping up with the curriculum that the school wanted to move ahead without making sure a student understood the material. Even with testing, the school refused to provide more support. The school uses Dojo to communicate with parents. Teachers were pretty communicative there, but not much communication in the way to help my child improve in different areas academically. If your child requires special education services, please avoid this school.

When looking for a good school or before your kids start at any school, look at the office and the office staff. is it clean, well organized, do they communicate with one another, are they hard at work when you walk in, do they greet you right away? most importantly is the principal available?if you dont see any of these then you will know how the principal will be. not very good. if the principal is in a meeting that obviously means they are possibly doing their job, at least we hope. alot of kids in the office crying or in line to see a nurse, sent to the office by teachers. gossiping staff. rudley speaking in another language to one another when not helping a spanish speaking person not cool. anyways you shoulf for sure not go to this school. personal experience worst school in pittsburg due to it "leader"
