Hoover Elementary School

As a former student of the middle school (despite its name, Anna Yates goes up to 8th grade), I warn every parent that cares about their student's academic and emotional wellbeing to send their kids somewhere else. At one point, they didn't even have a math teacher. It was a series of substitutes and then a projection of a teacher talking to them remotely. The discipline at this school is dismal. There are genuinely mentally unwell teachers at this school, who pick on the kids and choose sides like they're still 15 in some high school movie. The administration will almost always believe the staff. I have not only experienced this firsthand with about a handful of other students, but have witnessed this across grades as well. I will not go into detail, but the office does not know how to handle the simplest of issues without enlarging it and making it ten times worse. DO NOT send your kids to this school, and if you already have kids here, BELIEVE THEM and take them out.

My child went here from kindergarten through 3rd grade and when Sis. Barbara and Mr. Harper left so did integrity. We did not return for 4th grade. The kids started receiving poor quality lunches and cookies for snacks (everything that Obugs worked so hard to steer them away from). Also Ms. Mitchell does not have control over the school or support for the staff. My child spent the entire 3rd grade year listening to the teacher yell at the handful of same problem students. Our child's learning was suppressed here but is now thriving and thriving without paying tuition!!

Both my kids were at EBGIS throughout elementary and middle school and had an amazing experience. In terms of quality and small size the school is unique in the Bay Area. It's the perfect balance of kids learning a ton and at the same time feeling relaxed and happy and looking forward to going to school every day. After 8 years at EBGIS my kid went on to score in the 99+ percentile on the SAT and do outstanding in high school, while at the same time being a happy, well rounded kid with lots of friends and interests outside of school. Not to mention he's native-level fluent in three languages (the kids choose their third language in sixth grade, either French or Spanish).I'm not sure what to make of the few negative reviews, they don't seem fair. We were at the school for years and never had a negative experience, except maybe when interacting with some parents who seemed unhappy with life in general and looking for some way to vent their frustration. No school can do everything. Education is a partnership where parents need to support their kid's learning, make sure they're reading for pleasure at home, limit screen time, etc. If parents don't do their part, the kid isn't likely to thrive in any school.
