Both of my kids have attended SJF since they were three years old. Being that this is a small learning community, they have been able to enjoy a multitude of activities while establishing strong bonds of friendship and building a positive rapport with all teachers and staff. Any time I have a concern the principal and teachers are extremely responsive and tend to stakeholder needs. The new principal has also brought about many positive changes where stakeholders are involved in providing feedback and input, as well as much more accountability. If you want a safe, tight-knit small community that is conducive to learning for your child, SJF is the perfect place for you!

My son IEP and the school is not providing any services and just wants to fail him. His IEP specifically states that he needs to receive written instructions for homework and the teachers are refusing me to provide my son with written homework instructions. How difficult to do it for them? Some classes have no written materials posted online, no textbooks. I cannot even hire a tutor because I have no idea what is being covered in class and what is for homework.

Our 2nd grade son moved mid-year to Laurel Hall from our local LAUSD top rated Charter school. He was miserable at said school; bored & unchallenged. He LOVES Laurel Hall and thanks us everyday for moving him. He is a very bright, gifted child who needed a teacher who understood him and would work with him and that is exactly what we have found at Laurel Hall. His 2nd grade teacher is absolutely lovely, loving, kind, flexible, attentive, engaging and fun! She makes learning wonderful. The music program is outstanding, he loves the art studio, and all his enrichment classes and teachers. The PE and sports program is amazing and he can’t wait to compete in the sports program that starts in 4th grade. The kids were all SO welcoming and kind to a new student mid-year. He made friends quickly and easily and fit right in. There is a huge emphasis on kindness and building character. The school bumper sticker says “Be Kind” and EVERYONE truly is, from the amazing admissions director, to the wonderful vice principal and principal, the welcoming receptionist, cross guard, valet line guys, the full time school nurse and of course ALL the outstanding, dedicated teachers. Literally the entire staff is amazing. The fact that the kids have chapel on Fridays is icing on the cake, the Pastor is joyous and all the kids seem so happy when you walk through campus. The homework is perfect, not endless busywork like at our LAUSD charter. The classes are small, no class goes over 20 students. We plan to move our twins over in the fall to start Kindergarten, and can’t wait for all three of our children to thrive in this loving, nurturing and academically challenging environment.
