Russell Elementary School

This is the worst school ever!!!!! I would not recommend this school at all. The special education program is horrible. The assistant principal along with the principal can care less about the children in the special day program. Please please please find another school before entering this one.......

Throughout my time attending the school, the teachers have been very helpful. Especially 6th grade. My teacher would go over math and then set up a table for students who still need extra help. She was very patient and put her whole effort into helping the students.

I'm giving Graham 5 stars because the teachers and staff care deeply for the students. Is there room for improvement? Of course. Education is grossly underfunded in California, and many of the teaching and behavior modification practices in use around the entire nation are based on an understanding of child psychology and the psychology of learning that was already outdated 30 years ago. These are not Graham-specific problems (though it would be wonderful to see them leading the way). There's a supportive, multi-generational community surrounding the school, and student performances and celebratory events are well attended by families and loved ones. The staff go out of their way to make sure students who are having a hard time getting to school can connect with resources to help them. I think some of the negative reviews here are outdated, which should be taken as a win. Apparently, before we got there, there was parent displeasure with an administrator, and the parents organized to make that change. That's another example of ways in which the strong community is invested in their kids' school experience.

I was a sub paraprofessional at this school today and two things. One good thing that happened was: in morning and towards end of day I was able to build "rapport" with staff but definitely with the students. Also, unfortunately I do need to be honest, after I got to know the pther paras, sadlt things swiftly went downhill from there, one of them ended giving me an attitude when I tried correcting another student which was a special ed class. Things got too structured in the middle but I understand it was a sub, tbe other teach obviously but then again, at that point I didn't want to deal with anyone except the wnd of the day. So nope not coming back anymore. Ill make sure everyone sees this.

I went to school here when I was a kid. I enrolled my daughter here to not keep her at home and so she would engage with other children her age. Because she had speech issues and regional center wouldn't cover it any longer it was the affordable choice for me and my husband. The kids are very well behaved and the school is so much better compared to when I was there. The classrooms are smaller and my 5 year old is reading and isn't even in Kinder yet. One thing we have to recognize is that the teachers do the best they can, but its up to the parents to give their children that push that they need. When you combine both to their everyday life the results are amazing. Thank you St. Malachy
