Rockdale Visual & Performing Arts Magnet

Yorkdale is a wonderful and welcoming neighborhood school. Our kids are in kindergarten and 2nd grade, and we have had a great experience here. At Yorkdale, we've found more than just a school - it's become a nurturing home for our children's education. With attentive and experience teachers, small class sizes, and a warm community atmosphere, our kids have flourished academically and socially. We also appreciate the PTA and school's commitment to organizing fun events to build community.

I have 2 children at San Rafael. We are not a fluent Spanish speaking family, but it was important to us for our children to learn another language while they’re young. We were nervous at first that they would struggle, but the teachers are so good at what they do, and so supportive, our kids have really thrived! Also we love the parent community at San Rafael, they are so welcoming and passionate about the school. I can not say enough good things!

My 4 y/o son was enrolled in the PALS (preschool for all learners) program with Ms. Toledo and it has been the best decision we ever made for him! He’s made significant progress at school and at home and has only attended Annandale for a month. We receive daily updates from his teacher and it’s so nice to be reassured that he’s doing well. Our son is non-verbal & has level 3 ASD. You can imagine how hard it is to let your non-verbal child go to school knowing he can’t let us know how his day went. But from the moment we drop him off, he goes running in. When we pick him up, hes all smiles and that there shows us how much he loves being there. His teachers have been so supportive of his sensory needs and the patience they’ve showed our son has meant the world to us. Just recently the school held a attendance & biliteracy ceremony- our son was not able to sit in during the ceremony due to sensory overload so he waited outside until his name was called, but the principal Ms. Vega and Ms. Sandoval asked the audience to give a silent/quiet applause to make our son more comfortable as he received his award and that made us appreciate this school staff even more. the level of awareness is something the world lacks, but not at Annandale. We are heard. We are seen. We are included. We can’t thank you enough. Our only regret was not enrolling our son sooner. So a big thank you to Ms.Toledo, Ms.Diana, Ms.Ramirez, Ms.Batres, Ms.Vega, and Ms.Sandoval. you truly are making a difference in our little guys world.

My daughter is in the UTK class at Buchanan and is having a wonderful experience. The teachers at Buchanan are great and the school has a STEM and Dual Language program, plus a greening project is also beginning Summer of 2024!

We have mixed feelings about this school. We have loved the teachers (except for one 1st grade teacher) in the upper grades and love much about the school. But there are some very outdated approaches to punishment and social emotional learning that the principal enforces that are not backed by research to help kids. Lots of like about the school -- it's small, local, strong PTA involvement, good yard facilities, teachers overall seem engaged and caring. Wish the principal was more open to learning about more progressive and research-backed ways to help kids with behavior and social learning.

My son is loving his experience at ERE. The new principal, Ms Noriega, is doing a wonderful job turning things around with inclusion and parent involvement. The PTA is really wonderful and it feels like the community really cares for the student experience. My son’s teacher has been very helpful in identifying his strengths and fostering those abilities. ERE truly feels like an anchor for the neighborhood.

We have had our son here since preschool, now third grade. Overall a great school, wonderful teachers and supportive staff. Families are very involved and good communication. Our daughter is starting soon and would be sad if we ever had to leave.
