Read what parents are saying about Louis D. Armstrong Middle SchoolMy daughter is currently in the 6th grade here and in the charter school. She is in the performing arts program too and just loves it. Amazing staff, supportive administration and creative teachers. Great opportunities to participate in many quality activities. Parents are really involved. Beautiful agricultural area too! Feel really lucky to be in this community.
Posted by a parent on 3/16/2024My child is in SAGE and that program is pretty good. The kids in SAGE are really nice sweet kids. I haven't seen or heard of any bullying within that program. There is a GATE track within SAGE so if your child is identified gifted they can go on that track. The teachers in 7th and 8th grade are fantastic. There is a problematic 6th grade math teacher who just isn't very effective, but I think she's trying and cares about the kids. That teacher can be avoided if your child is in the highly advanced math class. There is some bullying that occurs with other non SAGE kids at school during passing period/lunch but their contact with SAGE kids in minimal. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty decent school, especially if you are looking for a school with really nice kids and mostly solid teachers. Class size is around 31-32.
Posted by a parent on 1/13/2024We love this school! My child goes to the Sage Program. The class sizes tend to be smaller in Sage, and the main emphaisis is to look out for each other, and not to bully others. My child let me know that the kids in SAGE do not bully, It encourages equity between students, and encourages students to be equitable with each other, and it encourages environmentalism. It also includes social and gender equity. The quote for the program is literally, ""Kind is the new cool." The test scores in this academy are also tend to be the highest in the school. We came to the school wanting to try all of the different programs, but ended up staying in SAGE, because my child and her friends love it.
Posted by a community member on 12/29/2023I was a former student at this school and I have mixed feelings about it. This school is probably a better option than some other public schools, but that’s not saying much. The students here vape in the bathrooms every day and the fights are occurrent multiple times per month. Teachers are very disorganized and most of them are not good. History department is decent, with Mr McLemore being the standout. Math department is okay, but should be better considering they have a math academy. Ms. Khachatouri is by far the best math teacher at the school and she teaches extremely well. Science department is terrible at the school with no teachers really striving to help you learn. English department also sucks, except for Ms Stealey. For performing arts, dance teachers are all descent and Mr Dean, who just left unfortunately, was an amazing theater teacher and this school really needed him. This school does not feel safe, and security heavily lacks here. Overall, I would not recommend this school, but given some other options, this might be your best bet.
Posted by a community member on 9/6/2023Armstrong MS is an extraordinary school! My son had the BEST middle school experience- I am sad he is graduating in 2 weeks. He has made great friends, had great teachers, has learned so much, and is SO HAPPY!The staff, teachers, counselors, and admin are amazing and so caring. LAMS is a wonderful place to be!

The teachers are great, the administration is attentive, and the grounds are well kept. Could not have been happier sending our kids there!!!Parent Review4y ago - St. Francis De Sales

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBoth of my children have attended SFDS since preschool- we have been here for almost 10 years and I can’t say enough about the school, teachers, and community. I have always loved that there is only 1 class per grade, each with an aide to assist the teacher. Everyone gets to know everyone else very quickly and it is a tight knit community that cares about providing the best for their children. Parents are encouraged to be highly involved here and it creates a loving and positive environment that shows in the students faces. If you are looking for a Catholic education for your child where they can learn and be surrounded by a strong sense of community, SFDS is the place for you!Other Review3mo ago - C. And E.
