Read what parents are saying about Citizens of the World Charter School HollywoodTK went great for my child. The teacher was very inclusive to different learning styles and really made learning fun. Fast forward to first grade and the lack of communication between parent and teachers and parents and admin was horrible. Several incidents occurred to where I didn’t hear about it from the teacher, I had to hear it from my 6 year old. When I contacted admin I got no response until I reached out to board members. I a firm believer in hitting and bullying not being tolerated, especially if it’s happening often. My child’s class had a lot of underdeveloped boy who were very aggressive to their girl peers. The students were never disciplined and only go a slap on the wrist and the my child (a girl) was meant to feel as though she should just ignore or try to get along with those who were hurting her. I have since moved my child to another school. If you do choose this school for your child just make sure you are contacting your child’s teacher regularly and stay on top of what’s going on in the classroom, not just academically. Also, it’s not diverse in the way I would have liked (racially), but socially it is.
Posted by a parent on 12/1/2022I could write an essay on all of the reasons that CWC Hollywood is a standout school and an absolute gem but as a busy parent, I’ll keep it concise. The school community is extremely welcoming, the teachers go above and beyond, the diversity is real, the curriculum is engaging, and there is a strong focus on social/emotional learning.Personally, I believe that social and emotional growth are equally if not more important as academics during the elementary school years and CWC lives their principles out in tangible ways. A brief story: at the beginning of my sons kindergarten year, there was a girls-vs-boys situation going on between some of the kids in their class at recess that was getting out of hand. Instead of reprimanding the kids for this aggressive boys-vs-girls game and making them feel that they are doing something wrong and that they are bad kids, the school’s approach was to create a special “picnic” lunch for the group of kids involved, every Thursday, so that those girls and boys would have a supervised and fun space in which they could converse and see that they do in fact have things in common and CAN get along. The school’s plan worked and I couldn’t be more grateful for their proactive and progressive approach to problem solving this situation. If I could change one thing it would be that the administration would be slightly more responsive to parent communication but all in all, the school is wonderful!
Posted by a parent on 7/1/2022We are so grateful that our daughter is getting a socially mindful education inclusive of art and personal development. She is so much happier at CWC than she was at her former school and we feel it's due to a staff that truly cares and is engaged with her needs educationally, emotionally & developmentally. We talk all the time about how much cooler her school is than the kind her daddy & I grew up with. She knows she is blessed to be part of something as special as CWC.
Posted by a parent on 10/18/20218 years - two kids at CWC Hollywood! My children love (loved) going to school everyday. CWC always want to include parents, never leave anybody behind, almost feels like a big family/team. They grow so much not only academically but also mentally. We love teachers and schools staffs, they are AMAZING!!
