Neal Dow has excellent teachers who are committed, caring, professional, and well versed in current curriculum. Also, the principal is always parent supportive and highly visible before and after school.Posted by a parent on 9/9/2016
Neal Dow Elementary School is #1. My kids love going to school here because of it's way it runs and the wonderful principal, teachers, volunteers, and staff. I get assurance, comfort, and peace of mind as a parent knowing the school empathize safety & no bullying. My kids focus well in their academic & physical activities because of good balance of everything.Posted by a parent on 1/23/2015
This has been a very challenging, but quite successfu,l year. Our staff and students have been required to learn many new skills in order to keep pace with technology as one of the major learning modalities of the future. The culture of the school was mostly positive and focused on helping each other achieve and relish academic successes, of which we had many.Posted by a teacher on 6/4/2013
I had three children attend Neal Dow. We were very impressed with the teachers. They are creative, thoughtful, professional and caring. It's unfortunate that they lack the freedom to do their jobs under the thumbs of CUSD and the administration. Although my children loved their teachers, they lost their love of learning at this school. This school is great if you want to prep your children for standardized testing. The administration will make certain your student will acheive the highest possible score. But if you are looking for an environment where your student will be enriched with science, music, art, languages, you will be disappointed. A disproportionate amount of time is spent preparing for the standardized testing. This seems to be the case for most of the CUSD schools. Thumbs up for remedial reading and math. Thumbs down for whole education.Posted by a parent on 8/17/2012

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageRosedale is amazing. I don't know why the whole of Chico doesn't send their children there. My son started in Kindergarden so I'm not sure about starting in later grades but starting in Kindergarden all the children work and learn together. I saw how they built a strong foundation in reading in Spanish and it translated to English almost instantly. All of a sudden my son was reading in English too- incredible. The teachers are caring and helpful. They have high expectations that are easily met by the students. I think sometimes we underestimate what our children can do. They have tutors if needed. My son went to school here K-2 and then we had to move. The main thing we miss about Chico is Rosedale- I wish I could find a school like this where we live now. We miss the teachers, friends, activities and learning too. I highly recommend this school!!!! Love you Rosedale!Parent Review3y ago

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a student at CCDS and I have been here since kindergarden, I am in junior high and I love it !!! It has the comforting small school environment, but with the technology and resources of a big junior high. The teachers are GREAT, they make sure the student is never bored or unchallenged, and they unlike huge middle school teachers, they help you if your struggling and they will take the time to get to know you. They have a okay hot lunch program, and great volleyball nets ,soccer fields, basketball courts and more. The middle school provides great elective choices, such as art, spanish, models, tech. , yearbook and more. The school provide many fun and educational field trips. I would recommend this school to anyone!Other Review8y ago
