Posted by a community member on 8/2/2017While I have had 4 children in this school at one point or another the only thing that I would say is above average about this school is their special needs preschool that they offer. Since my twins have began attending they have flourished into little boys that I never know. The teachers are fair and reasonable however they are not above average. I have one boy in the 2nd grade now and he could use some additional challenges but this school is not equipped with the tools to deal with advanced kids which is a bummer because he gets bored in class. The only thing really lacking is the new principal that they moved over from the middle school because he couldn't handle his job there.
Posted by a parent on 4/8/2013This school is one of the the worst schools my son has attended. The staff feel that they are the final view on anything that happens and they know what is best, regardless of whatever anyone with other qualifications might say. (They'd rather my son miss class due to the nurse's opinion rather than his pediatrician.) The staff (My son is special needs.) are of low quality and seem to have very little training on how to properly handle difficult situations, how to effectively communicate, and how to write legibly. (The teacher's handwriting is nearly as bad as my 7 year old son's. My husband and I have to often try to decipher what she is attempting to tell us. She also seems to have difficulty writing in complete sentences and using proper tense.) We've had many troubles with this school and feel that this school has not made it a priority to hire educators who are capable of not only educating students on subjects but also on maintaining certain standards within their own behaviors. If we remain here or return here for any reason our son will not return to this school!

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe office is unable to effictively communicate with themselves, students, or parents/guardians. They are completely overwhelmed and unable to properly run a school. In addition to that, my child and I were FORCED by the principal, counselor, and teacher, to discuss his private MEDICAL situation while standing in front of other parents and students at the pick up gate, as they tried to dupe me into signing him up for in-school Behavioral Health in order to get a Special Ed evaluation. The principal didn't introduce herself to me so I had no idea who she was as she straight SCOFFED that he had anything else but a behavioral health problem, eventhough they've already been notified he is medically fragile with Toxic Encephalopathy, they have PROOF from his Toxicologist already in his file, and they have been told psych medication is severely contraindicated due to hypertoxicity in his brain and body. He already has a brain specialist working with a team overseeing his conditions but they think they know better after only five days of school. I asked the counselor if I could read over everything and call her the next day to discuss and ask questions, and she said yes. So I called her the next day, and immediately she was abrupt, condescending, and rude- adamant she only had 5 minutes for me. I asked her several times to make an appointment instead, and she rudly refused, unprofessionally insisting I ask all my very serious questions only within the five minutes she was giving me. I read the paper I was being bullied to sign. They wanted me to sign over mental health decision-making to their in-school behavioral health team leaving me with only the option of providing input on his behavioral plan and when I insisted she clarify if this was part of the MET process she got angry and defensive, but eventually admitted it was not. They have been told repeatedly that his prognosis is FULL RECOVERY and that psych meds are severely contraindicated due to hypertoxicity. The specialists we already have actually KNOW him and our situation over the span of 3+ years but the completely overwhelmed, arrogant, and reckless staff at Carmichael think they know everything. They treat parents like insubordinate children to be punished when they are challenged, even when confronted with verifiable facts. The principal and her staff gaslight parents instead of admitting and fixing their wrongs, and they are unethically medicating children to make their job easier.Parent Review3y ago - General Myer Elementary School
