Our child had an horrific experience at this school last year. We had been at LPE for a few years (with no issues) but last year our child became a completely different child (academics regressed, behavior regression, and became fearful of school). His behavior completely changed from anything we had ever experienced as parents. His downward spiral led to him being afraid and upset about going to school. Most disappointing is that our child is especially vulnerable and on an IEP. Our expectations of trusted adults fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for him to succeed were not met by members of his special education team. We are relieved that we made the choice to move him (and our family) to a different school five minutes away and he is now excelling. He’s back to his old-self and loves school. In fact, on days he has appointments, he wants to return to school. He completes his assignments and is progressing. While we are happy with this outcome our concern remains regarding his educational experience the previous year which remains an outlier to his previous and current years at school. We are deeply troubled that LPE is five minutes from his current school and the experiences are polarizing. Schools in the same community and of the same district should only differ in school colors.

What a huge disappointment. Issues with bullying, lack of discipline follow through and a very weak special education department for students on IEPs (lower grades). We are not impressed and plan to look at different options for our child

I have had my 4 kids in this school for years now and it has gone so downhill over the last 8 years. Everyone was so excited for the new principal, but honestly I think things have gotten even worse with him. The school is far too crowded and I think that contributes to some of the problem. There is a ton of bullying and fights in the older grades, and no one seems to care. Kids get in big trouble for minor things (like talking in class or goofing around in the lunch room), but no one gets in trouble for major things. They are focusing on the wrong things! There were threats in the beginning of the year made by a student, including saying they had a knife and were going to kill people, and parents were not notified and we had to hear it from our kids even though the police were called onto campus! As the year has gone on, the communication has not been there and as a parent I feel like they are trying to cover up the big stuff and not be fully transparent. But again, the little stuff is a huge deal. Kids get detention for throwing food in the lunch room (which they should, that is wrong and disrespectful), but they don’t get detention/ suspension for physical fights? It just makes no sense. Teachers are now focused on punishing everything minor rather than encouraging and rewarding good behavior, and then ignoring glaring terrible behavior. Really sad to see what once was such a great school going downhill.

I would like to highly recommend this school, the office staff is top knotch , the principal and vice principal has been so incredible. Our son had the best Kindergarten teacher Mrs . Nichols and his 1st grade teacher Mrs. Martin has been a God send . We have had many issues with our little guy he came from a bad environment and in the process of adopting . They have went above and beyond to help him succeed and support us though the process , he has been excelling emotionally and they have helped him in his learning issues . I can’t give enough compliments to this school . Even the principle told me he doesn’t give up , they are here to help . They are empathetic and kind , wonderful staff with hearts of Gold
