As a former student of the school with a younger sibling in it I feel like the school has its flaws when it doesn't come to education. My biggest issue is the bus policy due to the area we live in once the child enters first grade they're expected to walk or drive to school however the school doesn't keep in mind that some parents can't take their children and the heat is excessive to the point they do recess indoors despite having playgrounds because it's so hot, and the walk is actually pretty lengthy which comes off as a hazard for safety to me. I also think memories I had with staff weren't always fun to look back on at times. School education wise isn't bad especially if the teachers are good at getting to the kids. I can recall good moments at the school but with my younger sibling going there I can't help but worry instead

The staff, from the top down, does not take kids saftey very seriously at all, very concerning. We are in the process of looking for a better establishment.

Their special education program is the only reason my children attended this school. Their learning center teachers and paras are the best. The nurse is amazing. Now to all the reasons I wouldn't ever let my kids attend here again. They allow bullying of all degrees. My daughter was harassed but not just students but teachers. There was a teacher who would make deeply inappropriate comments, barrate, and humiliate my child in front of her peers. My daughter was assaulted two weeks ago at this school for the principal to dismiss it. The principal man handles the children. No adult should grab another person's child because they are angry. This school is by far the worst experience. If you want a principal who hates children, front office staff who are unhelpful and rude, or teachers who bully students and allow other students to be bullied this is the school for you.

I had a very troubling experience with the principal, Mrs. Fitzsimmons. My son is an autistic first grader, and we provided the school with all required autism documentation and paperwork prior to enrollment. We also followed the school’s instructions to have him evaluated for an IEP so appropriate supports could be put in place.Despite this, during a pickup conversation, Mrs. Fitzsimmons stated—directly in front of my son—that due to his autism, he could no longer attend the school. She further said that she “would never have accepted him if she knew how autistic he was.” No child, especially a first grader, should ever hear something like that.She informed me that his “last day would be Friday,” giving less than a week’s notice, without following proper procedures or offering accommodations or support. This appeared to be solely because the school no longer wanted to work with his needs.It was only after I escalated the situation to the district superintendent that this decision was addressed; otherwise, it would have gone forward. The contrast between how welcoming the school appeared during our tour and how we were treated once my son was enrolled was stark.Based on my experience, this school does not adequately support children with special needs. I would not recommend enrolling a child here if accommodations or understanding are required.

This has been one of the most disappointing elementary school experiences I have ever encountered. Unfortunately, this concern extends beyond a single issue and includes teachers, office staff, and school leadership. I have personally witnessed staff members behaving in ways that I consider rude and disrespectful toward children, parents, and visitors.It is troubling that children are expected to demonstrate respect toward peers and adults when there appears to be a significant lack of respectful behavior being modeled by some of the adults in the building. Children learn by example, and the current environment does not consistently reflect the standards of respect that are being demanded of them.Additionally, I share the concerns of other parents that incidents of bullying are not being adequately addressed, and that the school often appears to turn a blind eye to these issues.One positive development this year is the principal’s decision to step down, and I hope this leadership change creates an opportunity for meaningful improvement. I sincerely hope the district and Board of Education step in sooner rather than later to ensure that necessary changes are made to better support the students and families of this school.

Paseo Hills has been known for its issues for many years. Poor communication from staff and principals regarding big things like threats, but you'll get weekly emails with a word of the week. Principal Hood will call you and sweep things under the rug if you have a concern. My friends child was found with an older student (she was in kindergarten) in the bathroom stall and the staff acted like it was no big deal. Another friends son's teacher is simply passing him along rather than actually helping him. He doesn't understand the material and is on an IEP but the minimal support is evident when a third grader can hardly read. Our experience has also been less than ideal with everyone except the amazing office team, and we are happy that they now have a police officer on staff. Even the nurse does not communicate, if your child comes home with a large bandaid and blood dripping down their skin with a huge bruise you'll have no idea they even went to the nurse unless your student tells you. We have been a part of DVUSD for several years ranging from kinder to HS and the district as a whole continues to go downhill. They want their students off of IEP's, they do testing without consent, their curriculum is awful, they spend countless amounts of money on things like technology when their money can be used other places, and their focus is not safety or the well being of students like they say. A matter of fact, you don't even need to have a background check to volunteer on field trips or go to school dances. You also cannot open enroll with an IEP, therefore we are stuck with Paseo for a few more years until my children go to HS, as it's our home school. If you're looking for a home, I do not recommend moving to an area where your student will go to Paseo Hills. From the principal, to the teachers, and the learning in between, Paseo Hills continues to be a disappointment.
