Verrado Middle School

Today I made the decision to remove my 7year old son from Scott Libby Elementary school in Goodyear AZ.When I dropped him off Wednsday morning, he showed me where he has been sitting in class alone, separated from the other students, facing the wall while the rest of the class sits together in groups.At first, I honestly thought he was joking. He was not!I was deeply disturbed to learn that this had apparently been happening for about a month, possibly longer, and I was never notified that my child was being isolated or disciplined in this way.No child should be treated like this.As a parent, it is heartbreaking to realize your child may have been silently carrying this every day. I have noticed changes in my son’s behavior, and now I understand why.I brought this to the school’s attention, and I left feeling like my concerns were not taken seriously.I want to be very clear: isolating a 7 year old child away from peers like this is unacceptable. It is emotionally harmful, humiliating, and damaging.I am speaking out because no parent should have to find this out by accident, and no child should have to go through this alone.My son deserves better. I was raised in Arizona and this school has given my son so much support with reading and math. I did not have this when I was going to school. Because of this support he is improving in each subject. I really appreciate all the staff and teachers at VES. Thank you!

My daughter has been at this school for 3 years now. We’ve had a great experience with all 3 teachers. They’ve all been very helpful and responsive if I had concerns or my daughter needed extra support. My daughter enjoys going to school and interacting with her peers.

The leadership at this school is stellar, as are the teachers and support staff. We have been at this school for 3 years and have been very pleased with the engagement from the teachers & Principal as my kids navigate through their learning and social/emotional growth journeys. It truly feels like a family and the sense of community is wonderful. My children are in the TA program and the teachers we have had (1-3) are amazing.
