Posted by a parent on 4/3/2020Vestavia Hills East Elementary is hands down the best school my children ever attended. Their special education support team are the greatest and they treat your child as if they were their own and they make parents feel so comfortable. Also if you have a child who is starting kindergarten Mrs Capps is the way to go!. Behind every great school is a great principal and Dr. Mark Richardson is one of them.
Posted by a parent on 5/19/2015Vestavia East is AMAZING. We moved to this area just for this school district and selected East as the Elementry school we wanted our child to attend. After that, we only looked at houses zoned for this school. They have wonderful programs and really understand the individual needs of students.
Posted by a parent on 8/20/2013My kids were PR-K and KG last year, they liked this school, as I do. My daughter who is a PR-k used to cry when the school was closed. She loves her teachers. It is only one class for the pre-schoolers (3-5), and is a very good place for education and learning the good manners and attitude, they also helped me a lot with the toilet training. It also has both special needs and normal kids, which I really liked about this school. However, the pre-schoolers go for only 4.5 hours (8:00-12:30). KG is great too. Coming from Europe I felt it is a bit demanding for money, parents do pay every now and then for activities and teachers gifts, but having parents involved in so many nice and fun activitied worth it. The principal is a very nice gentleman, and so are most of the staff at VHEE. I also like the teachers and staff at the lower carpool, the ladies at the office and Ms gail the lunch lady. My son who is in KG is a special need (autistic) and he goes to Ms Horton, the speech therapist ,regularly, his speech improved dramatically over the year. Sadly we had to leave the school coz we moved to another state. I would recommend this school to anyone.

10/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved our kids into the school system from a private school. They made an easy transition, and I found the academics just as challenging. I did not grow up in Alabama, but everyone was very welcoming. A great sense of community- amazing teachers, counselors and administrationOther Review10mo ago - Vestavia Hills Elementary School West

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHall Kent has recently forced teachers out of their jobs/forced teachers to resign without any explanation for the administration’s actions and without complaints from fellow teachers. I would not support a school that won’t support teachers.Other Review1y ago - Southminster Day School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI’m not sure about the April 2023 review because this school is separate from the church and is not affiliated. I have a kindergartner who will be returning as a 1st grader and we had a great year. This is a parent lead school where the teachers create their own class curriculum. It’s a traditional school where they focus on reading and writing in traditional settings. They say the pledge every morning and go to chapel every week. It’s a patriotic and faith based school. The director knows every child’s name and greats them walking in every morning.Parent Review9mo ago - Islamic Academy Of Alabama

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll of these happy positive reviews are lies. I attended and didn't like it that much. This is a narrow minded, backward thinking, racism, and segregated institution. I feel sorry for anyone aligning themselves with he way they do things. If people don't see one another as the same on this planet and try to view things from the perspective of someone else then this planet won't be making much progress. This school should do better and look in the mirror so they can make corrections. It starts with YOU looking deep within and confronting the nasty things about you for the better 1st!Other Review6mo ago - Ascension Episcopal Kindergarten

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur child just graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School (OLS) and I feel obligated to leave a review for other parents about our experience with this amazing school. It's hard to describe but there's a feeling at OLS that isn't like other schools. It's a sense of love and concern for your child that you don't find very often. The principal, Mrs. Dorn, is such a wonderful person who truly cares about the students and the school. She is so sweet and you can tell she just wants the very best for every student. She works tirelessly to make sure the school runs smoothly and I always felt like everything was so well organized down to the very last detail. The communication was always really good too, which is so important. Mrs. Dorn worked late every Friday to send out a weekly email providing feedback and pictures from the week, along with updates about the upcoming week. I always felt like I was in the loop on everything. The office staff members were also amazing. They always greeted us with smiles and a cheerfulness, caring attitude, while willing to help us with whatever we needed. Then there were all the amazing teacher, who showed care and concern for our child. Father Muller and Mrs. Dorn work hard to keep the tuition down so parents can afford it and compared to other schools, it is very affordable. We are so grateful for this school and all the wonderful people that helped make our time there so great! Having out child attend this school was truly a blessing!! If you're looking for a school for you child, I highly recommend checking out OLS Catholic School.Parent Review2y ago
